Nita R. Becker, 102, of Beaumont, died Monday, March 10, 2025. She was born on August 6, 1922, in Crockett, to Inez Skipwith Rosser and James Harrison Rosser.
Both of her parents were educators and placed a great deal of importance in education. All their children were read to from the time they were born, and good books were an integral part of who Nita was. Her mother Inez was born in Brookland and her father, James was born in Weaches. Nita was a Texan through and through.
Nita had two sisters, Mary Evelyn Rosser Wilkinson and Gwendolyn Rosser Wingate, and two brothers, James Harrison Rosser and Joseph Nesbit Rosser.
She finished schools in Beaumont and graduated from Beaumont High School at the age of 16. Nita went to work for Security State Bank in Beaumont before she turned 17 and from that point on, she was a banker!
After the war she met and married Ken Becker, a truly remarkable man. Their union produced three fine sons, who gave her three grandsons, who gave her four sweet great-grandbabies. Nita would often remark on how fortunate and blessed she was to have such a beautiful family. Ken passed on March 5, 1981.
Nita loved banking! She loved meeting people, serving their needs, and she loved the people she worked with. When she retired at 72, from what was once Allied Bank of Beaumont, she was Senior Vice President of the bank. During those years she did a multitude of things, but training good tellers to be even better tellers was her forte. Nita loved each little teller that was put under her wing.
Later Nita, along with another good banker, organized a travel program through which we took good customers on trips, some overseas and some closer to home. It was during those years that she met and learned to love some of the most wonderful people in the world. They changed her life and enriched it beyond measure.
After retirement there was more time to pursue other activities. Nita worked in her flower beds. Her flowers were lovely, especially the brilliant amaryllis, the soft pale calla lily, the azaleas, and the camellias. She felt working on them to be beyond rewarding.
There was also more time to read, a passion she had all her life. She also loved having the extra time to have her friends come to her house. Nita said that she had more time for storytelling, something she loved dearly. She has told stories to so many different groups all over this area, she called it a real joy! Nita enjoyed oil painting. Her paintings ended up scattered all over this area and that gave her a great deal of satisfaction. She also found it very pleasant keeping in touch with her friends through her computer, she loved constructing lovely greeting cards on her computer.
Nita, along with Weldon and Lois Kaspar, organized a travel club for their church called the Road Runners. She said it was a joy getting on that big charter bus and taking shorter trips with good friends and fellow church members.
Survivors include her sons, Scott Becker and his wife Ranah, of Village Mills Texas, and David Becker of Beaumont Texas; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Nita is preceded in death by her parents; siblings; husband; and son, Mark Becker.
