Noah "Noe" Ortega, age 56, of Brownwood, passed away on Thursday, September 4, 2025. On March 17, 1969, in Uvalde, Texas, a force of nature named Noe Ortega entered the world. To some, he was Flaco, to others, El Indio, but to everyone who knew him, he was unforgettable, full of energy, full of love, and full of life.

Noe was born to Enrique Guadalupe Ortega and Juanita Ramírez Villarreal, the second of nine children. The Ortega family knew both hardship and resilience. After the loss of their infant sister, Sandra, the Ortega family remained eight strong, four brothers and four sisters. Though Noe was raised by his grandparents and aunts, the bond with his siblings was undeniable. Ricky, Israel, Christoval, Adela, San, Becky, and Chriselda loved Noe, not with distance, but with the closeness of those who had grown up side-by-side. To each of them, he wasn't just a brother in name, but in every way that truly mattered.

While his path through childhood was different, surrounded by the care of grandparents and the guidance of aunts, Noe also grew up shoulder to shoulder with cousins who became more like brothers and sisters. In that wide, interwoven family, love was abundant, loyalty was natural, and the roots of his fierce devotion to family were planted deep.

And to the countless nieces and nephews who adored their Tío Noe, he was larger than life, hardworking, hilarious, and always making sure they knew they mattered.

Noe faced challenges early in life. He sometimes referred to his rough patches as going away to "college", a joke that carried with it both humility and grit. What mattered wasn't how many times life knocked him down, but how many times he got back up. And Noe always got back up, Every. Single. Time.

With nothing more than his hands, his determination, and his ganas, he built a business from the ground up. He became the proud owner of Coyote Construction, a company known for quality work and for the pride he poured into every job. He wasn't just a builder of houses, he was a builder of opportunities, of security, of memories. He took care of his books, his crew, his clients, but most importantly, his family. Work mattered, but family always mattered more.

And what a family he built. Noe shared his life with his wife, Carolina Ortega, and together they shared a family that was his heart and soul. He was father to his daughters: Sabrina Lynn (and husband John), Sherie Nicole (and husband Isaac), Mandi Marie (and husband Adam), Estefani, Evelyn, Yessica Berenice (and husband Ricki), and Karissa Michelle (and husband David). He was also dad to his sons, Edward Joseph and Joel Jay. His pride and joy multiplied with every grandchild: Gaby, Elijah, Daniel, Alaya, Reyna "Seiza", O'Ryiah, Violeta, Lucino Mattias "Matt", and Joshua. To them, he wasn't just Grandpa/Tata, he was proof that hard work, determination, and unconditional love can build a beautiful life.

Noe lived freely, loved ferociously, and worked relentlessly. He loved fishing, hunting, concerts (whether it was cumbia or rock), Cowboys games, and adrenaline-filled adventures. His impact is not measured in possessions, but in the laughter, the memories, and the lessons he left behind. He showed his kids, his grandkids, his nieces, nephews, and everyone who crossed his path that life is meant to be lived loudly, fully, and without regret.

And he had sayings, oh, the sayings, that are etched into our memories:

• "Now we're cooking with propane!"

• "¿Qué uvo?"

• "Welcome to the jungle!"

• "¡Hey güüüeeey!"

• "You want a raise? Get up on that ladder, there's your raise!"

• "Fireball!"

• "¡Sí vale, y no no más en Uvalde!"

• And, of course, the words of Ramón Ayala's song that he always made sure to belt out to cause a stir: "Cuando apenas era un jovencito, mi mamá me decía cuidadito…"

Noe was a man who showed love through action. Whether it was running out into the rain to rescue Evelyn's stuffed ladybug, lifting Karissa on his shoulders at a Cowboys game so she could see Pitbull perform, or reassuring his kids that as long as he was there, they had nothing to fear, he was always present, always protecting, always giving.

His daughters recall the lessons he left them with:

• Sherie: "Work like a BOSS, party like a rock star!"

• Mandi: "Life's hard and the world can be cruel, but it's finding a man like my dad that can make each experience better. He was unapologetically himself and never hesitated to be who he was, regardless of who was present."

• Evelyn: "His life was hard but he made it a good one."

• Yessica: "Despite facing numerous challenges, he remained resilient, demonstrating unwavering courage and compassion in the face of adversity."

• Karissa: "He used his hands, not just to work, but to create a beautiful life for those he loved most."

His girls remember moments that defined him. Mandi dancing cumbia with him in the living room, Sherie watching football and dirt track races with him, and Yessica remembering his advice to never be afraid because he would always protect them. Sabrina, summed him up best when she fondly recalled: "He taught us that you can fall, but you must pick yourself back up and not dwell on the past."

Noe Ortega was our son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, tío, and friend. He was larger than life, impossible to forget, and deeply loved. And though our family is no longer complete, his memory, his lessons, and his laughter will remain with us forever.

If Noe could give us one last message, I'm sure we can all picture his familiar grin, raising a drink, maybe with AC/DC playing in the background saying: "Live life to the fullest, love your family, see each other as often as possible, and don't waste time worrying about me."

Because for Noe, life was never meant to be survived, it is meant to be lived.

"¡Now we're cooking with propane!"

"¿Qué uvo?"

"Welcome to the jungle!"
