Our son Noah Thomas made his entrance into the world shortly after midnight on September 13th 2006 somewhat dramatically via emergency c-section. As we would find out later, he just always had to be a bit extra! Noah's time on this earth ended in a tragic car accident the morning of August 20th, 2024, just shy of his 18th birthday. He was taken too soon, so kids please wear your seatbelts!!
His quick wit, cheeky grin, loyalty, and impeccable humor drew many friends to him. Noah had the distinct ability to make friends anywhere he went; he was a charmer like that. The relationships Noah made were what made him tick and what brought him the most joy. He and his Grandpa Tom had a special friendship, whether backpacking in the woods, hiking, or jam-skating at Oaks Park. You heard that right-he loved jam-skating and could skate circles around all of us.
Among the many other things Noah enjoyed were sporting fake mustaches, lighting off fireworks, and pretty much partaking in anything that gave him a thrill. Jordan lows, fitted hats, funny shirts and sweats were staples of his signature style. He had a unique affinity for music; he was known to belt out a good Aha or Rage Against the Machine song word for word. Noah enjoyed new and old hip hop music, but could occasionally pull in a random Willie Nelson song too if it fit the mood. He was always great at reading the mood in people.
Noah's diet consisted mostly of donuts, mac'n cheese, dressed up ramen dinners, and Chuy's burritos. He also had weak spots for Honey Buns, Grandma Holly's casseroles, and whatever Dad cooked. He'd happily eat Mom's simple meals too Many moments were enjoyed in Hood River over some of Abuelito's carne asada or never-ending supply of candy. But they didn't hold a candle to his Abuelita's molé or Spanish rice.
Noah became an older brother at age 7, to a sister he hoped he could someday play checkers with. They had a strong bond; she was someone he could unapologetically confide in, and he was often her protector and teacher of all the things-even how to be sneaky and drop one-liners! He was so proud of her for making competitive soccer this summer!
Noah and his Dad enjoyed much in common, from Jordans to late-night conversations that always included boisterous laughter. Noah enjoyed working on cars with his Dad and learning more about mechanical work. He could always count on Dad to "swoop" him for a ride home, and take him on fun-filled adventures and road trips.
Noah found security and comfort in his Mom, and definitely inherited her dry sense of humor. His ability to take teasing right up to the line was impeccable, always with a glint in his eye. He could always be depend on her to find that lost item, and confirm she had indeed put his clothes in the dryer the night before.
Noah always knew how to bring light and laughter into the room. He leaves behind his mother Brienna, father Manuel, sister Emmalyn, and a huge community of family and friends. While we are deeply saddened with the abrupt and shocking loss of our son, we are grateful and appreciative for the outpouring of love and support shown to both him and our family. He loved and was loved by so many.
