Nola Joy Powell, 84, of Barrington, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2025 surrounded by family. She was born on September 20, 1941, in Chicago, Illinois, to the late Peter and Mena Gonzini.
On June 25, 1960, Nola married the love of her life, Ronald Powell, and together they built a beautiful life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. The couple was married for 65 years, and they were long-time residents of Barrington, Illinois, where Nola worked for over 30 years as the secretary for Ronald and her son Todd’s dental practice, Barrington Dental Care. She was devoted to her family and her role in the practice.
While Nola's life was full of many accomplishments, her greatest pride and joy was her family. Nola’s love for her family knew no bounds. She visited nearly every national park in the country, skied some of the highest peaks, and rode on the back of a motorcycle down winding trails. She embraced every challenge and journey with one goal in mind: to be present for her family. She didn’t seek these adventures for the thrill of it, but rather for the opportunity to be there for those she loved.
Nola’s warmth extended beyond her family. She was a social soul who loved being surrounded by friends. Whether she was participating in her book club, enjoying lunch dates, or joining a lively game of Bunko, she cherished the relationships she built along the way.
In addition to her loving husband, Ronald, Nola is survived by their children, Todd (Laurie) Powell, Pam (Raphael) Guio, Glen (Jennifer) Powell, Ryan (Ashley) Powell; grandchildren, Nicholas and Adrienne Powell, Simone (Matt) Hansen, Kyle and Chelsea Powell, Hank and Nora Powell; twin great-grandsons, Ryder and Hayden Hansen.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
