Nora Baer

Panagiota "Nora" Panagoulopoulos Baer, 92 in Greensboro, North Carolina passed away peacefully on February 23, 2023.
Nora was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, Bud Baer and her parents George and Chrisula Panagoulopoulos. Nora was one of seven siblings and had many beloved nieces and nephews in Greece. Left to cherish her memory are her son George Baer (Heidi), her step daughters Linda Baer and Lauren Caulfied (Evan) and four grandchildren, whom she dearly loved, Laurelle Caulfield, Julia, Elise and Chandler Baer.
Nora was born in Kalamaki, Greece and lived there until she came to the United States in the 1960s, first to the Washington D.C. area and then Virginia Beach. She was an accomplished seamstress and devoted wife, mother and yaya (grandmother). She was the yaya every child would want. She happily got down on her hands and knees to play and had an abundance of patience. She was very involved in and a founding member of St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Virginia Beach and had a servant's heart. She was the first to offer help and was generous with her time. Getting an invitation to dinner at the Baer home, when she was cooking Greek food, was a treat for any that were lucky enough to experience it.
Dementia is a long and heartbreaking journey. We are so grateful for the amazing staff at Spring Arbor of Greensboro and Authoracare Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Nora and our family. We appreciate all the love and support given to us during this journey, especially from Toula Manouilidis, Julie Harrell, Pam Powell, Pamela Boerger and Debbie Sivret.
The family will receive friends at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts. in Virginia Beach, Sunday, March 12th with a Trisagion prayer service at 6 p.m. A service will be conducted at St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church on Monday, March 13th, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
