Nora Mae Hatcher Coleman, 82, of Weirton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Born on May 23, 1943, in Beckley, WV, Nora was the daughter of the late Arthur and Noralueva Moore Hatcher.

After graduating from Byrd Prillerman High School in Amigo, WV, Nora furthered her education at Bluefield State College. It was there she met the love of her life, Melvin L. "Mel" Coleman. The two were married on December 27, 1962, and shared nearly 58 years together before his passing in 2020. Their marriage was blessed with three sons, three daughters, ten grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren.

Following Mel's career as a semi-pro basketball player, he became a teacher and assistant basketball coach at Weirton Madonna High School. As her children grew, Nora began a long and fulfilling career beginning at First National Bank of Weirton, followed by Weirton Housing Authority and presently as the Activity Director at Serra Village in Weirton, where she served for more than twenty years.

Nora was known for her joyful spirit, feisty nature, and vibrant personality. She was the life of the party, always impeccably dressed and full of energy. She loved decorating her home, singing, and taking vacations with her family, especially the annual Coleman family trips to the Outer Banks.

For forty years, she played an integral role in the Coleman School of Basketball.

She was a faithful parishioner of Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir and was active in the Christian Mothers. Nora also dedicated her time to community service through the Democratic Women, the Human Rights Commission, and as a former member of the Weirton Jaycees.

In addition to her parents, Nora was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Lawrence Coleman, Sr., who passed on July 1, 2020, and her grandson, Adrian.

She will be lovingly remembered by her children: Melvin Lawrence Coleman, Jr. (Lori), Patrick Jerome Coleman (Jody), Anthony Norville Coleman (Alana), Melissa Coleman, Kenyatta Coleman-Grant (Derrick), and LaTasha R. Coleman; her grandchildren: LaChelle Guinn, Mariah, Antuan, and Amiya Coleman, Madison and Micah Brotosky, Melvyn Elijah Coleman, Savannah, Victor, and Kenleigh Grant; her great-grandchildren: Carson Francis, Yuri, and Kai Jones; and her brothers: Richard Hatcher (Dorothy), Arthur Hatcher (Ruby), and Roy Hatcher (Bronza).

Friends and family will be received on Sunday from 1–3 PM and 6–8 PM at the Greco-Hertnick Funeral Home, 3219 Main Street, Weirton.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 AM on Monday (Labor Day), at Saint Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Weirton.

Memorial contributions may be made in Nora's memory to the Coleman School of Basketball, 138 Brick Lane, Apt. 5, Cross Lanes, WV 25313.
