Nora Mathews Obituary

Nora was a graduate of Short High School in 1951.
On July 5, 1952 she married Wilbur Gene Mathews. Nora and Gene were able to celebrate this beautiful day with her brother in law and his new wife, as they had a double wedding together. They were able to share the day of love, laughter and the bond of friendship and family. Gene and Nora were able to spend 20 years together before his passing in 1972.
Nora was a member of Connersville Baptist Temple.
Nora was involved in the Bible Study Fellowship for many years, she also had taught adult women Sunday school.
For over 20 years, Nora worked in the insurance industry. She retired from Wayne County Rural Electric as their bookkeeper.
You could often find Nora traveling, reading and making quilts. She cherished her family and spending time with her nieces and nephews and treated them as her own.
Nora is survived by her sister, Joan Mathews; her nephew and nieces, Jeffrey (Donna) Mathews, Douglas (Sandi) Mathews, Steve Allen, David McMahan, Michael McMahan, Genesee White, Mary Kaye Mathews Halterman, Kim Mathews Buttery, Dawn Mathews Cooper,, Robert Mathews, Karen Mathews Snodgrass, Michael Mathews, Amy Mathews Bass, Michael Lee Mathews, Stephen Mathews, Kevin Mathews and Terry Mathews; and several great nieces and nephews and friends.
Nora was preceded in death by her parents, her husband; her brothers, Glen Allen Jr. and Charles Allen; her sister, Roberta McMahan; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may visit on Friday, June 27, 2025 from 10:00 am until 12:00 pm at Urban Winkler Liberty Funeral Home, 310 N. Main St., Liberty, Indiana 47353. The funeral service will begin at 12:00 pm at the funeral home with Pastor Joe Ferreira of Connersville Baptist Temple officiating.
