Nora Solis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Grunnagle-Ament-Nelson Family Funeral Home & Crematory on Feb. 19, 2026.
Nora (Mendiola) Solis was born on June 5th, 1940 in San Miguel, Tamaulipas, Mexico to Noe Sr. and Antonia Mendiola. Located a short distance from the south Texas border and now known as Ciudad Diaz Ordaz, Nora described where she was born as a small, dusty town. She lived In San Miguel as a little girl until her family eventually moved to Sullivan City, Texas where she spent her early life.

Due to the necessity of providing for her family by working and maintaining their home, Nora did not have the opportunity to attend school for more than a few years but her lack of education did not diminish her desire to learn. She constantly yearned for a better life, eventually becoming a U.S. citizen and meeting the love of her life, husband Onecimo "Oni" Solis, as a young woman. They married on January 16, 1960.

During their early years together, Nora and Onecimo worked by following the agricultural circuit, traveling to Texas, Arizona, Idaho, Washington, Oregon and finally California where they eventually settled in Hollister in 1963. Nora always believed staying in Hollister would provide a better life and opportunities for her family. Outside of agricultural work, Nora worked a seasonal job with the San Benito Cannery for 25 years alongside many of her friends. Nora is the reason her family remained in the beautiful community of Hollister where she and Onecimo built their life together.

Nora and Onecimo were happily married for 50 years until his passing in 2010, after which Nora religiously visited and maintained his gravesite. Nora adored him and affectionately referred to him as "Mi Rey." Prior to her own passing, Nora said Onecimo was calling her to be with him.

Nora enjoyed her plants, working in her yard and cooking. It was common to enter her house and smell the comforting and delicious scent of her cooking, especially homemade tortillas. She also enjoyed quilting and sewing. Nora was a devout Catholic and expressed her faith through prayer and beliefs, stating it was God's will that she now be with The Lord. She was incredibly strong mentally, physically and emotionally, never complaining, even while coping with her previous and current illnesses. Above all else, Nora was a loving and affectionate person who loved her family unconditionally. She cherished her role as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

The Solis family would like to express our sincere thanks and gratitude to Jasleen with Bonita Springs Care for her compassion and guidance while assisting us with Nora's final journey.

Nora is preceded in death by her husband Onecimo, parents Noe Sr. and Antonia, brothers Raul, Lionso and sister Elida. Her story and legacy live on through her four children, Sylvia (Lupe), Onecimo Jr. (Judy), Selma (Marty) and Oscar (Sandra) along with Nora's siblings Noe Jr., Elma and Arnoldo. Nora also loved and enjoyed her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by all.

Burial services will be private.
