Nora W. Stevens, 97, went to be with her Lord and Savior in the early morning hours of October 28, 2024. Born on July 27, 1927 in the town of Linden, North Carolina to Millard Fillmore Wood and Lydia Jane Eason Wood, Nora married the love of her life, Roy A. Stevens, Sr. on June 21, 1947. They had two children, Roy A. Stevens, Jr. and Gloria S. Willis.
She is survived by her daughter, Gloria S. Willis of Morehead City, her daughter-in-law, Karen C. Stevens of Richlands, five grandchildren, Jennifer Stevens of Raleigh, James Stevens of Richlands, Marvin Willis (Erica) of Newport, Kathryn Smith (Eric) of New Bern, Kim Borie (Mark) of Cape Carteret, one sister, Iva Stone of Coats, five greatgrandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Nora is pre-deceased by her husband Roy, her son, Roy, Jr., her son-in-law, Marvin Willis, Jr, three sisters, and four brothers.
Anyone who knew Nora knew her to be a "card". Until her declining health in December, she was very active in her church, First Freewill Baptist Church and her "Pick 'N Grin" musical groups. She loved playing numerous musical instruments and singing to the top of her lungs. Never to be outdone, she was famous for her practical jokes. She never met a stranger; only people she didn't know yet. Those of us who knew her and loved her will miss her greatly.
In addition, the family would like to thank Brittney Harden who came to help Nora around the house and take her to all of her appointments. She loved her like a daughter. We would also like to thank Dr. Alonzo Davis for taking excellent care of her over the years. A special thank you to Karli of Carteret Home Health and Hospice Care for her loving care this past weekend. We couldn't have asked for better care as Mom took her final journey.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, October 30, 2024 at First Freewill Baptist Church of Morehead City. Burial will follow at Bayview Cemetery of Morehead City. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 PM on Wednesday at the church.
Flowers are welcome or donations in Nora's memory can be made to Carteret Home Health and Hospice care, P. O. 1619, Morehead City, NC.
