Norbert H. "Nub" Ruen

CONTINENTAL - Norbert H. "Nub" Ruen, 88, of Continental, passed away at 12:15 a.m. on Sunday, March 3, 2024, at Brookview Healthcare Center, Defiance. He was born April 11, 1935, in Deshler to the late Anthony A. and Mary E. (Breece) Ruen. On August 5, 1978, he married Norma Jean Steel, who preceded him in death on November 13, 2022.

Norbert is survived by three stepchildren: Gary (Mary) Brown of Holgate, Dennis (Penny) Brown of FL and Deb (John) Seely of Montpelier; six grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; a brother, Jim Ruen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a brother, Clarence "Peewee" Ruen and a sister, Connie Schreiber.

Norbert loved his hometown and was the former manager for the Ruen-Etter Trailer Court, Continental. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion, Continental. Norbert was a hardworking man, who helped raise three kids when he didn't have to. He always made sure there was food for his kids and pets to love, especially ponies and puppies. He loved camping, trapping, playing cards, but most of all, he loved pull tickets. Norbert fought through some major health issues, making us call him the "comeback kid." He loved his family, brothers, sister, mother and stepfather immensely. He was especially close to his nieces, Toni Jones and Roxie Knipp, who were by his side through his last days. He will be missed by many. Fly high, Dad, we love you.

Funeral service will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at HEITMEYER FUNERAL HOME, Continental with Pastor Terry Porter officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Riverside Cemetery, Defiance. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 11 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
