Norine Haas Obituary
With full hearts and deep sorrow, we share that Norine Haas died on November 13. She was a beloved sister, aunt, friend, and steadfast presence in her community. Sadly, she was predeceased by her husband, Theodore "Ted", and her son, Robert "Bob" Haas.
Her life has been a testament to compassion, intellect, and unwavering service.
Norine began her professional path as a Registered Nurse, graduating from Temple University in Philadelphia. Her early training in classical piano at the Bethlehem Conservatory of Music reflected a lifelong love of beauty and discipline - qualities that would echo throughout her life.
Her career spanned decades of leadership in human services and philanthropy. As Executive Director of the Ausherman Family Foundation (2007-2010), Norine guided policy development and managed grantmaking that strengthened local agencies and enriched community life. Prior to that, she served as Chief Executive Officer of the Frederick County Mental Health Association (1987-1999), where she oversaw agency programs, funding, public relations, and strategic operations with vision and heart. Earlier still, she was Executive Assistant to the Frederick Area Office of the United Church of Christ (1979-1987), supporting the organizational life and ministerial placement of 78 member churches.
Norine's commitment to community extended far beyond her professional roles. She served as President of the Frederick Rotary Club (1999-2000), chaired the Board of Trustees for Episcopal Ministries to the Aging, and held leadership roles in the Frederick Torch Club and the International Association of Torch Clubs, including serving as its President from 2014-2016. She was also a dedicated member of the League of Women Voters.
Her past service included the Jefferson School Advisory Board, the Frederick County Mental Health Advisory Board, United Way Executives (two years as chairperson), the Frederick County Human Services Coalition, the Frederick County Public School Health Council (as Chair), and the Frederick County Board of Social Services, where she served on the Executive Committee.
Norine brought to each endeavor a rare blend of clarity, warmth, humor, and determination. She was a listener, a leader, and a light. Her legacy is one of deep-rooted care - for people, for justice, and for the flourishing of her community.
As we prepare to say goodbye, we hold close the music of her life: the steadfast rhythm of service, the quiet harmonies of kindness, and the enduring melody of love. She is deeply loved and will be deeply missed.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Homewood Living Frederick, 7407 Willow Rd. Norine Haas
