Norma Linda Canel November 14, 1954 - August 1, 2025 Norma Linda Canel (Cantú) was born in Dimmit, TX on November 14, 1954. Norma peacefully passed away on August 1, 2025 in Clovis, CA surrounded by her loved ones. She is survived by her loving Husband of almost 48 years Joseph Canel Jr. Her Daughter Erica Canel and Son-in-law William Atondo, Daughter Sarah Tercero and Son-in-law Justin Tercero, Daughters Kristi Jo Canel and Silvia Robinett, Grandchildren Matthew, Brittney, Laila, Justin Jr., Isabella, Zaida, Zavier, her Mother Eulalia Gauna, and eight brothers and sisters. She was preceded in death by her father Jose Guadalupe Cantú, Grandmother Natividad Gauna and Grandfather Ysabel Gauna, Father-in-law Joseph Canel Sr. and Mother-in-law Wilma Canel. Norma grew up in her beloved Earth, TX population 899 with her grandparents and her aunts and uncles who she also considered her brothers and sisters. Norma moved to Clovis, CA in 1974 and reconnected with Joe who she had met previously while attending Central High School for one semester she spent in Fresno, CA. They married September 10, 1977 and began the foundation for the close knit family of 4 daughters, 2 son-in-laws, and 7 grandchildren that grew over 48 years of love.
Norma was her family's life manager. She was the accountant for the family business Canel Pools and brought up her children in Clovis Unifed School District where she was involved as PTC President at Miramonte Elementary and Clovis High School Band Booster president. Norma loved spending time with her family especially her granchildren who she adored and was a constant presence in their lives. In June 2024, Norma made a visit to her hometown to celebrate the Centennial anniversary. It was a treasured memory and she was so happy to have returned to her Tejana roots. Norma loved and supported not just her family, but all her friends, who were like family to her. If you needed a mom, grandma, aunt, sister, or just a friend, she'd be it in a heartbeat. You could meet her as your soon to be in-law, neighbor, at the Super Burger drive-thru, or at Costco, and you'd have a friend for life. Norma's impact is immeasurable. To all who loved her and shared life's moments with her, thank you. Your stories and support have brought comfort to our family as we navigate this immense loss. Norma's legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering support will live on in all of us. The family wishes to thank the healthcare team at Clovis Community Hospital for their compassionate care of Norma throughout her life, especially during her final days.
