Obituary of Norma Ann Fried
Norma Ann Fried, a beloved mother, sister, grandmother, and friend, passed away on April 25, 2025, at the age of 92 in Denver, Colorado.
Born in Los Angeles, California, Norma was the daughter of Dr. Norma I. Jacobs and Pauline D. Herzberg Jacobs. In 1950, she left Los Angeles to attend the University of Colorado, beginning a lifelong connection with the state she would proudly call home.
Norma was preceded in death by her husband, Benjamin Fried. She is survived by her sister, Mary Johnstone; her children, Debbie Weiner, Larry Weiner (Susan), and Julie Weiner (Eugene); and her grandchildren, Drew Riffle (Tiffany), David Riffle (Allison), Carly Riffle, and Sarah Weiner. Her three children were together and with her at the time of her death.
Norma made her home in the Park Lane in Denver for over 50 years, and found great joy in long walks and cross-country skiing in Washington Park with her husband and close friends. She and Ben were enthusiastic participants in the park's annual Thanksgiving Turkey Trot.
Norma was active in the National Council of Jewish Women and the League of Women Voters, and previously worked for the Legislative Council of the Colorado General Assembly. She was admired for her impeccable sense of style and grace, always presenting herself with elegance and warmth. As a longtime Carlisle representative, she found great joy in helping others discover their own personal style and to feel good about themselves.
Norma touched many people over the years with her bright smile and kind demeanor. She lived a full and happy life, and was beloved by her many friends and family. One of her most frequent expressions was that she wished she could do more for a family member, friend, or even a stranger in need. She will be long remembered and missed for her kindness towards others, thoughtfulness, and cheerful disposition.
A celebration of Norma's life will be held on July 5, 2025 in Denver at the Park Lane. Contributions may be made in her name to the Food Bank of the Rockies, and Jewish Family and Children's Services.
