Norma Jean Green, beloved wife, mother, and grandmother, peacefully passed away surrounded by her family on June 29, 2025, at the age of 88.
Born in Masontown, West Virginia, Norma was a gifted storyteller who delighted her loved ones with tales of her childhood. She often spoke fondly of having running fresh water from a mountain spring, cautious walks through the holler at dusk, and the comforting aroma of her father's pot roast with rice and gravy every Sunday after church. These memories captured the warmth and tradition that Norma carried throughout her life.
After marrying the love of her life, Silas Green, Norma embraced the role of a devoted military spouse, accompanying him across several duty stations during his service in the United States Air Force, followed by several relocations through his work in the Oil Industry. Through every move, Norma's grace and resilience helped create a loving home wherever they were stationed.
Later in life, Norma poured her heart into her passion for candy making. She and Silas founded "Mama Nell's Candy," a southern confectionery known for its irresistible pralines. For over 20 years, Norma's candy kitchen brought joy to communities across the South, and the sweet scent of her creations became a symbol of love and welcome in her home.
She was a faithful member of Lighthouse Baptist Church in Theodore, Alabama.
Norma is survived by her husband of 69 years, Silas Green; her children: Dennis, Denise, and Gregory; 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends who will always remember her.
A viewing will be held on Saturday, July 5, from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Mobile Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 6040 Three Notch Rd, Mobile, Alabama. The celebration of life funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m. with the burial immediately following at Mobile Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Her legacy lives on in every warm memory, every shared story, and every bite of a homemade praline.
