Norma "Noni" B. Hendrix, a beacon of sweetness and warmth, graced this world with her kindness from November 6, 1932, until her peaceful passing to be with her beloved Jesus on November 22, 2025. Born in Greenville, South Carolina to the late Donald Durant and Willie Mae Bedingfield, Noni carried a light in her heart that brightened the lives of everyone around her. Whether it was through her gentle smile, her tender words, or the unwavering love she shared, she made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Noni was a devoted wife and an excellent mom who embraced her role with grace and joy. Her home was a sanctuary where her daughters' friends felt welcomed and cherished—many affectionately calling her "Mom." Her nurturing spirit did not stop at motherhood; it blossomed exponentially with the arrival of her granddaughters. The title of "Noni" brought her immeasurable joy, as she delighted in spoiling them with treats, happy meals, and limitless love. The laughter and innocence of her grandchildren filled her days with purpose, as she relished every moment spent watching them grow.
Her personality was a rare gift, one that cultivated friendships and bonds that transcended the ordinary. Noni's nurses, who cared for her during her final days, were drawn to her vibrant spirit. They made time on their breaks and days off to spend precious moments with her, reflecting the joy she infused into the lives of those around her. It was simply impossible to remain untouched by her presence; her warmth enveloped all who entered her life. She was a woman who never raised her voice, nor uttered a curse, choosing instead to communicate through tender affection and unwavering patience. Many people called her "sunshine" because she was sunshine in human form. You would never see her without a smile on her face, even when she was in the hospital.
The cornerstone of her life was her 57-year marriage to Jerry, her high school sweetheart. Their union was a testament to her character—she was a devoted, loving, and forgiving wife, often described as the rain to his fire. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared dreams, spending countless wonderful years together. Each moment spent alongside Jerry only solidified her legacy of love and partnership.
Noni found joy in the simple pleasures of life. A long-time member of West Gantt Baptist Church, she had been unable to attend recently, but she never missed a Sunday morning watching Gabriel Swaggert. The Hallmark channel filled her home with stories of love and joy, perfectly aligning with her passion for Christmas and its heartwarming decorations. Not to mention, her enthusiasm for QVC led to a treasure trove of items in her home, giving her grandkids their own shop to explore.
Noni leaves behind her two daughters, Judy Seymore (Rick) and Nancy Slice (Tim); granddaughters, Brodie Smith (Logan), Sydney Slice Roman (Arnold), and Stacey Slice; and one great-grandson, Sloan Smith, as well as her beloved cousin, Robbie Gossett, who was much like her, a sister to her.
