Norma Jean (Roth) Johnson, 92 of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa, formerly of South Sioux City, Nebraska passed away on Friday, March 15, 2024 at a local care facility. Abiding by family wishes, cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 22, 2024 at the Mohr & Becker-Hunt Funeral Home in South Sioux City, Nebraska with Les Johnson officiating. Family wishes to encourage those attending to wear Nebraska Husker clothing in honor of Norma’s support of “Big Red”! Burial will follow at a later date at the Dakota City Cemetery. Visitation, with the family present, will begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Online condolences may be offered to the family at www.meyerbroschapels.com
Norma was born on October 27, 1931 in Lusk, Wyoming to Norman L. and Nina A. (Hopkins) Roth. She received her education in the Niobrara Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1950. Norma married the love of her life, Marvin D. Johnson on December 2, 1950. She was a proud mother of seven children, and in 1959, the family moved to South Sioux City, Nebraska.
Norma worked at Park Plaza Restaurant and Motel, Gambles Store, and Region IV throughout her career. After becoming a grandmother, she became a daycare provider for many years. Norma donated 10 gallons of blood to the Siouxland Blood Bank, was a 50-year member of the South Sioux City Volunteer Women’s Auxiliary, fulfilling each office within the organization. Neighbors, friends, and especially family, remember Norma for her coffee and homemade baked goods. She was an amazing cook, loved to sew, and let’s not forget, she was an avid Nebraska Cornhusker fan, “Go Big Red!”
Norma is survived by her children A. Marvene (Ed) Plueger of Omaha, Nebraska, Dwayne (Nancy) Johnson of South Sioux City, Nebraska, Arld (Nancy) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska, Byron (Missy) Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa, Marvin (Larry) Johnson of Sioux City, Iowa, Darvin (Lori) Johnson of Dakota City, Nebraska, and Troy (Sandra) Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; grandchildren Tim Oban, Christina (Todd) Hatten, Melissa (Chris) Jensen, Blake (Sara) Johnson, Brett (Cassie) Johnson, James Johnson, Nate Johnson, Lexie (Preston) Dolan, Tyler Johnson, Brooke (Chad) Williams, Trista Johnson, Seth Johnson, Gracie Johnson, and Hunter Johnson; step-children Angela Plueger, Melissa Plueger, and Amy Corkin; eighteen great-grandchildren, sisters Karol Mulhair, Verlys Keim, Lavaun Miller, Connie (Randy) Hazen, and Erla (Paul) Whiteneck; sisters-in-law Bev (Robert) Boes and Rose Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews and countless friends.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, husband Marvin in 2011, great-grandson Cole M. Oban, sisters Joan (Bob) Dooling, Donna (Jerry) Crichton, and Lola (Merlin) Johnson, brother Robert Knutson, in-laws Milton (Betty) Johnson, Melvin Johnson, Donald (Ardith) Johnson, Franklin (Marian) Johnson, Darlene (Jim) Eaton, Aylene (Ross) Crosley, Joyce (Ron) Crosley, Lucille (Chuck) Faughender, and LeRoy Johnson.
