Norma Linton Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Field Funeral Home on Jan. 21, 2026.
Norma Jean "Squeak" Linton, 88, of Independence, WV, went to be with her Lord, Sunday, January 18, 2026, at home.

She was born in Independence, WV on November 13, 1937, a daughter of the late Carl C. and Edna May (Hovatter) Linton.

Jean was a loving sister, aunt and friend. She was a woman of deep faith and conviction – strong, independent, and wonderfully stubborn in the way only someone who knows who they are can be. Church was not just a habit, but it was her foundation, attending every Sunday morning and evening and every Wednesday night, trusting and living by His word.

Jean found joy in the simple things in life, feeding her deer and turkey, caring for God's creatures and living close to the land she loved. Those moments made her gentle spirit and appreciation for the life God gave her stand out even more. She kept many animals on her farm taking in any stray that needed some love and care. In addition to her kindness toward animals she was an avid sports fan of WVU and loved golf.

Jean's heart was bigger than her stubbornness. She put others before herself and was the peacemaker in the family, but she was never afraid to tell you how things were going to go. She lived life her way – strong-willed, faithful and full of love. Above all, she loved being an aunt. Jean left a legacy of devotion, generosity and steady presence. Her love will continue to live on in all of those who were blessed to know her.

Jean is survived by her brother, Robert "Bob" Linton of Reedsville; sister-in-law, Mary L. Linton of Evansville; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by two brothers, Theodore "Bud" Linton and Denzil "Denny" Linton; two sister, Willa "Toots" Turner and Mary Madeline "Tinker" Chipps; two brothers-in-law, Frank Turner and Wilbur Leon Chipps; two sisters-in-law, Mary Linton and Dorothy Linton.

Friends may call at the Field Funeral Home in Masontown, WV on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, from 11 am until 1 pm time of service with Pastor Robert Anderson officiating.

Condolences may be extended online to the family at www.fieldfuneralhome.com.
