Norma Maio Obituary

Norma T. Maio, age 99, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 19, 2026. She was a resident of Aston Gardens Assisted Living in Sun City Center, Florida.

Norma was predeceased by her beloved husband of 72 years, Anthony (Tony) R. Maio, as well as by her mother, Sarah A. Mancini, her father, Pasquale Pietrobono, and her brother, Joseph Pietrobono. She is survived by her devoted children, Carl (Rita) Maio, Norma M. Tignanelli (James), and Lisa M. Kane (Eugene); her eight cherished grandchildren; and her twelve adored great-grandchildren, all of whom brought her immeasurable joy.

Born on August 1, 1926, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Norma grew up in the Italian section of the city, where family, faith, and tradition shaped her life. As a teenager, she moved with her parents to Lancaster, Pennsylvania, where she met the love of her life, Tony Maio. They were married at St. Anthony's Catholic Church, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love, faith, and devotion.

Norma worked alongside her family in their bakery and assisted her stepfather, Florio Mancini, in writing for an Italian newspaper-an experience that reflected both her strong work ethic and her deep pride in her heritage.

Above all, Norma loved raising her family. Her family was everything to her, and she delighted in hearing stories about her children's and grandchildren's school experiences and travels around the world. She was a gifted cook who found joy in making homemade pasta, baking, and gardening with her children and grandchildren-traditions that will live on in her family for generations.

Norma was deeply devoted to her faith, especially to the Blessed Mother Mary, whom she honored with great reverence. She practiced her faith with pride and constancy throughout her life.

After returning to the Doylestown, Pennsylvania area to continue raising their family, Norma worked at Hart Elementary School, in Centennial School District, for 22 years, where she formed lifelong friendships and found great fulfillment helping teachers to educate young children.

Following her retirement, Norma and Tony moved to Florida, where they remained active in their community and enjoyed international travel together. Norma and Tony enjoyed travel throughout Europe, especially Italy, and the Caribbean. Norma was an avid reader who loved discussing current events with friends and family. She participated in many activities in Sun City Center but especially treasured her role as a greeter at Prince of Peace Roman Catholic Church, where she welcomed all with her warm smile and gracious spirit.

Norma will be remembered for her unwavering faith, her deep love of family, her generous heart, and her quiet strength. She leaves behind a legacy of love, tradition, and devotion that will live on in all who were blessed to know her.

Norma's family will receive friends on Friday, March 27, 2026 from 9:00 am until her Funeral Mass 10:00AM in Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church, 235 East State Street Doylestown, PA 18901. Her interment will follow and take place next to her late husband Anthony at Washington Crossing National Cemetery.
