Norma Polly Jean Staake Schweer
Meredosia - Norma Jean "Polly" Staake Schweer, 95, of Meredosia, IL passed away on Friday, March 6, 2026, at Scott County Nursing Center in Winchester.
She was born on January 16, 1931, in Meredosia, the daughter of Ray and Ruth (Hildebrand) Werries. She married Leland Herman Staake on August 20, 1950, in rural Chapin and he preceded her in death on May 15, 1994. She later married Norman R. Schweer on November 21, 1997, in Las Vegas, NV and he also preceded her in death on December 23, 2014.
She is survived by two sons, Gary (Christine) Staake of Meredosia and Ron (Paulette) Staake of Jacksonville; seven grandchildren, Alicia Rathgeb, Erin (Morgan) Betsinger, Brandon (Carlee) Staake, Chelle (Matt) Holmes, Stacey (Andrew) Mackey, Jerrod (Cindy) Staake, and Beth Staake; fifteen great grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; one sister, Betty Kleinlein (deceased husband Paul) of Chambersburg; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; one son, John Staake and his wife, Mary Lou Staake; one granddaughter, Angela Staake; one sister, Mary Kaltschnee; and three brothers, Marvin Werries, Robert Werries (surviving wife Marilyn of Jacksonville), and Donald Werries (surviving wife Roxy of Meredosia).
Mrs. Schweer was a 1948 graduate of Meredosia High School. She was a bookkeeper at A.B. Chrisman in Meredosia for over 20 years. Polly was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Jacksonville, volunteered at Passavant Area Hospital for many years, and served on the Meredosia Public Library Board. She enjoyed going to casinos and playing bingo.
A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, March 12, 2026, at the Buchanan & Cody Funeral Home in Jacksonville, with burial at Oakland Cemetery in Meredosia.
