Norma Seppanen Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Reid Funeral Service & Chapel on Sep. 29, 2025.
Norma Jean Seppanen, age 92, a longtime resident of Nisula, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 23, 2025, at Baraga County Memorial Hospital, with her family by her side. Norma was born on August 15, 1933, in New Castle, Pennsylvania, the daughter of the late Roland Harlan and Viola (Patton) Harlan. She attended Princeton School during her childhood years. Norma worked as a school bus driver for the L'Anse Public Schools and cherished the children along her bus routes. She was a proud life member of the Alston VFW Women's Auxiliary – Post 7646. Norma had a zest for life and found great joy in bowling, playing BINGO, and cards-especially pinochle. A true fan at heart, she never missed a chance to cheer on her beloved Pittsburgh Steelers. She is survived by her son Bobby Mattox and daughter-in-law Joni Mattox; sister Carol Brown; stepchildren Linda Seppanen, Dan Seppanen, Sue (Scott) Wagner, and Deb (Keith) Byce; several grandchildren, including Zachary and Elli Wagner, and Lily Byce; several great-grandchildren; and a special niece Beth Ann. Norma will also be fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews, and close family friends and neighbors, including the Sikkila family and Tom and Deb Clisch. Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband Clarence "Chipper" Seppanen; her son Jimbo; daughter Tammy Jeffers; and granddaughter Lacy Brown. A funeral service honoring Norma's life will be held at 12:00 PM on Monday, September 29, 2025, at the Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L'Anse, with Pastor Ed Hulkonen officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral chapel beginning at 11:00 AM until the time of service. Immediately following, all are invited to join the family for fellowship and a luncheon in the Harrington Gathering Room, located within the funeral home. Burial will take place at Pelkie Cemetery at a later date. The Reid Funeral Service and Chapel in L'Anse has been entrusted with the arrangements.
