Norma Stokes Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brumley-Mills Funeral Home - McAlester on Mar. 11, 2026.
Norma June Stokes, age 89, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her beloved family, on March 11, 2026, in McAlester.

Norma June Stokes was born on November 18, 1936 in McAlester, a place she proudly called home throughout her life, to George Emmett and Lilly Leona (Frank) Kirkland. Norma lived a life rooted in love, family, and community. She married the love of her life, Floyd Stokes, and together they shared 47 beautiful years of marriage. Their life together was built on devotion, partnership, and countless cherished memories. She spent 20 dedicated years working at Humpty Dumpty Grocery Store, where she became a familiar and friendly face to many in the community. Her kindness and gentle nature left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her. Outside of work, Norma enjoyed spending time at the casino, one of her favorite past-times. However, what brought her the greatest joy was simply being surrounded by her family and visiting with close friends. She treasured those moments of laughter, story-telling, and connection that created lasting memories.

Norma is lovingly survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Sheryl and Mark Sehgal of McAlester; her son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Tory Stokes of Houston, TX.; and her three beloved grandchildren, Kinley Velez of Houston, and David Sehgal and Katherine Sehgal of Carmel, Indiana. Her family was the center of her world, and she took great pride in each of them.

Viewing will be Thursday until 8:00 p.m. at Brumley-Mills Funeral Home in McAlester. Graveside services will be Friday, March 13, at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery, with the Honorable Tim Mills officiating. Family and friends are invited to gather in remembrance and celebration of a life well lived.

Norma will be remembered for her gentle heart, her devotion to family, and the quiet joy she brought into the lives of those around her. Though she will be deeply missed, her love and memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
