Norma Wood Obituary

Norma "June" (Mardis) Wood, aged 98, passed away on October 14, 2025. She was born on January 27, 1927, to Beulah Mae and Hubert Mardis.

On February 19, 1946, June married Andrew H. Wood, who preceded her in death in April 2022. Together, they cherished their life and shared numerous wonderful memories. Together they had one son, Andrew M. Wood, who also preceded June in death just seven months ago.

June is survived by her beloved sister, Margaret Mardis of Franklin, Indiana; grandchildren, Andrew J. Wood (Leslie) of Greenwood and Kelly J. (Wood) Edwards of Bargersville; and her great-grandchildren, Dr. Jacob Wood of Indianapolis, Catie Wood of Chicago, Maddie Wood of Greenwood, Emma Edwards and Audrey Edwards both of Franklin.

She was preceded in death by her brothers Dean (Mae) Mardis of California and John (Ollie) Mardis of Bargersville.

A proud graduate of Franklin High School in 1945, June obtained her associate's degree in accounting. She worked at Camp Atterbury as a Dental Surgical Assistant, where she met her husband, Andrew. June served as the Auditor of Johnson County from 1971 to 1979 and was honored as American Business Woman of the Year in 1974. Following her term as Auditor, she dedicated her career to the federal government, working in accounting and auditing at Ft. Benjamin Harrison and later as a traveling auditor across various states before retiring in 1994.

Known for her loving and caring nature, June was deeply involved in her community. She participated in many clubs including 4-H, DAR, American Legion since 1950, RIPEA, and Farm Bureau. June had a wide array of hobbies, including beadwork, playing Scrabble and dominoes, writing songs, and playing musical instruments like the piano and accordion. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family.

June was loved deeply by her family, friends, and community and will be sorely missed. Her legacy of love, kindness, and dedication lives on in the hearts of all who knew her.

Visitation will be held on Monday, October 20, 2025 at Otterbein SeniorLife Chapel located at 1070 W. Jefferson St., Franklin, IN 46131 from 11:00am - 1:00pm. A funeral service will begin at 1:00pm with burial to follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
