Norman Buck Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bross & Spidle Lawson Chapel & Cremation Services - Lawson on Mar. 11, 2026.
Norman Elbert Buck, 85, passed peacefully from this life on February 22, 2026, at Liberty Hospital. Born on March 12, 1940, in Kidder, Missouri, to Charles E. and Lucy P. (Innis) Buck, he was the fifth of seven children.

He was raised in Hamilton, Missouri, where he spent his childhood working hard and getting into plenty of mischief with his siblings. He attended school in Hamilton, where he developed the lifelong values of family, hard work, and dedication that would guide him throughout his life.

As a young boy, Norman gave his heart to Jesus at the First Baptist Church in Hamilton, MO, a faith that guided him throughout his life. At just 16 years old, he met Sharon Kay Roland, who was 12 at the time. Confident even then, he told his friends he would marry her someday. On February 16, 1963, that promise became a reality, and together they built a life centered on love, faith, and devotion.

Norman and Sharon moved to Kansas City, where Norman worked various jobs before discovering his true passion for carpentry. Their firstborn son, Gary, was born December 30, 1964, and passed away in February 1965. Though his time on earth was brief, he remained forever cherished in their hearts. In 1966, they welcomed their son Kevin and then in 1971, their family was completed with the birth of their daughter, Lisa. That same year, Norman completed construction of the home he had been building for his family in Lawson, MO, where he lived until Sharon's death in 1991.

Norman dedicated many years to the Eual Motter Company, helping build hundreds of homes throughout the Kansas City area. In 1987, Norman began working with Richard Voyles Construction, specializing in trim carpentry until his retirement in 2005. He took great pride in his craftsmanship, knowing his work would stand for generations.

Norman was a devoted husband and loving father - steady, dependable, and a man who led by example. Through his strong work ethic, quiet strength, quick wit, and unwavering faith, he left a lasting impression on all who knew him. A faithful member of the Lawson Baptist Church for more than 15 years, he attended regularly and found great joy in singing in the choir.

An avid outdoorsman, Norman loved to fish and hunt. Some of his happiest days were spent along a riverbank or in his boat on the lake. Just as meaningful were the early mornings spent meeting friends for coffee before work - a tradition he continued faithfully even after retirement. Those daily gatherings were a simple joy and a treasured part of his life, something he looked forward to every day. Over coffee, they would solve the world's problems, and he would beam with pride as he spoke of his kids and his grandchildren. He especially loved having family dinners and getting everyone together for tacos!

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Lucy Buck; his beloved wife and the love of his life, Sharon Kay (Roland) Buck; his son, Gary Ray Buck; and his brothers, Charles Dean Buck, Herbert Franklin Buck, and Freddie Wayne Buck.

He is survived by his son, Kevin (Janet) Buck of Excelsior Springs, MO; his daughter, Lisa (Chris) Behrens of Yukon, OK; siblings, Martha (Charles) Wolf of Leesburg, FL, Harlan (Sandy) Buck of Mesa, AZ, and Effie Brown of Joplin, MO. Norman was blessed with six grandchildren, Jared (Sarah) Slavens of San Diego, CA, Jennifer (Tucker) Wilkins of Excelsior Springs, MO, Dillon (Kayla) Slavens of Oklahoma City, Austin Buck of Lee's Summit, MO, Madison (Kendric) Jackson of Yukon, OK, and Emily (Clayton) Ford of Lawson, MO. He also cherished four great grandchildren, Easton, Harrison, Myles, and Raelynn; as well as many nieces, nephews, and a multitude of friends.

Norman will be remembered for his unmistakable laugh, his sense of humor, skilled hands, and a faithful heart. His legacy lives on in the walls he raised, the lives he shaped, and the many memories that will be cherished for generations to come.

Funeral service will be held at Lawson Baptist Church, 18603 US-69, Lawson, MO 64062 on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at 11:00 a.m.
