DaVona Blyth, 71, of
Liberty, Missouri, passed away on March 7, 2026, at NorthCare Hospice House following a brief but courageous battle with cancer. A woman of immense heart and dedication, she spent her final days surrounded by the love of the family she so cherished.
A Life of Adventure and Service
Born in
Lexington, MO, to Ora Robert "Bobby" and Patsy Sue Schreier, DaVona grew up in Camden and Richmond before graduating from Orrick High School in 1973. On December 20, 1972, she married the love of her life, David Blyth. The early years of their marriage were marked by the adventure of Navy life, as DaVona supported David's service while traveling from coast to coast.
In 1975, the couple welcomed their daughter, Kerri Ann, who became the center of their world. The family eventually settled in Lawson, where DaVona turned her natural gift for nurturing into a career.
A Legacy in Education
DaVona was a pillar of the Lawson community for many years, first as a private childcare provider and later as a beloved pre-school teacher alongside Vivion Boin. After the pre-school's closing, she transitioned into quality control at the Coveris Plastic Factory in Excelsior Springs, where she worked until her retirement in 2020.
Retirement, however, only signaled a new chapter. Moving to Liberty to be closer to her daughter and grandsons, DaVona returned to her first passion: working with children. At the time of her illness, she was a cherished Kid Zone Counselor for the Liberty School District, impacting the lives of students in the before and after school programs.
Family and Faith
DaVona's greatest joy was her role as "Nana."
She is survived by her husband, David Blyth; children, Kerri and Jamie Powell; grandsons, Liam Riley and Blyth Robert Allen Powell; siblings, Pam McGill Lewis (Tim Ekern), Robert Thomas "Tommy" (LaNae) Schreier, Robin Schreier, Linda (Billie) Briggs, Tim (Cheryl) Schreier, and Scotty (Shelly) Schreier; and in-laws, Mike and Sherry Blyth, and Jill and Steve Best. She also leaves behind a large, vibrant network of aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews, whom she loved with the same depth as her own children.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her in-laws, Robert and Rosma Blyth; a sister-in-law, Darla Schreier; three brothers-in-law, Jim King, Terry McGill, and Billy Lewis; two nephews, Jeff McGill and Brian McGill; a niece, Jennifer Blyth; and her grandparents, Forrest "Bub" and Violet Ellis, Forrest W. Schreier and Eileen Summers.
A Final Gift
Even in her passing, DaVona continues to help others. As a registered organ donor, her final act of kindness serves as a "gift of life" to those in need.
The family invites friends and loved ones to join them in honoring DaVona's memory and sharing stories of a life well-lived .
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. on March 16, 2026 at Shoal Creek Community Church in Pleasant Valley with Cousin Sean Hoeflicker performing the service.
