Norman Downey Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Freed-Givnish Funeral Home, Inc. AKA John R. Freed Funeral Home on Apr. 19, 2024.
Norman R. Downey, Jr died on April 18, 2024 at the age of 66 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Norman & Elizabeth Downey. He is survived by his siblings Mary Ellen Soldano, Sharon Miller (David) and Kevin Downey (Karen). In addition, he has a surviving aunt & uncle Kate & Paul Smith, as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Norman went to Jacobs School and started working at Rolling Hill Hospital in Elkins Park immediately after graduation. He proudly worked there for 41 years and outlasted multiple employers. Besides his long tenure, he was always proud to say he was never late or sick. To get around, Norman learned to ride a bike, a moped, and drive a car - all points of pride and independence. He enjoyed watching DVDs (what a collection!), playing cards, painting, eating out, giving speeches and saying grace. Most of all, he loved spending time with family and said he "kept family together." He was instrumental in a 2019 cousins' reunion.
Norman always remembered to call and send cards on special occasions. The card always arrived weeks or even months ahead. He always asked how your family was doing. He would always call to wish you luck, tell you to have a good trip, or ask how things were going. His facial expressions were priceless!
We are confident he is going to heaven. We miss him terribly.
Relatives and friends are invited to greet Norman's family on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 10:00 AM until his Funeral Service at 10:30 AM at the John F. Givnish Funeral Home, 10975 Academy Road, Philadelphia, PA 19154. His interment will be handled privately by the family.
