Norman Jacobs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home, Inc. on Feb. 28, 2026.
RICHFIELD SPRINGS – Norman J. Jacobs "Stormin' Norman"age 74, passed away unexpectedly, Thursday February 26, 2026 in his home.

Norman was born on May 11, 1951 in Cooperstown a son of the late Claude H. and Wilma Norton Jacobs. He was raised and educated in Fly Creek, New York. In January of 1970 he was enlisted in the United States Navy. He served our country until January of 1972, when he was honorably discharged. He worked at the Wal Mart Distribution Center in Sharon Springs. After retiring from Wal Mart he worked at the Cooperstown Dreams Park. Earlier in life he was employed by Clarks Sports Center and The Baseball Hall of Fame.

Norman was a very hard working man; mostly found in a garage. If you ever wondered where to find him, he was often found at Bobnick's Garage; shooting the 'breeze' or helping to repair some hot rod, muscle car, or some dream 'project'. He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need and loved sharing his knowledge of cars with the young. In his spare time he loved going fishing, hunting, camping and snowmobiling. He liked a man with good work ethic and good character. Norm was big on muscle cars, NASCAR; and was known as Jeff Gordon's biggest fan. One of Norman's favorite things was pizza; not just any pizza, but pizza from the New York Pizzeria. He was known to grab a few pies and visit his son and daughter. Norm was an artistic and creative individual. He was a master craftsman who designed and installed custom cabinetry, shadow boxes, jewelry boxes/cabinets and other woodworking crafts of which he was paid handsomely.

He is survived by a son, Brian Jacobs, of Worcester; a daughter, Kelly Maynard, and her husband, Matt, of Worcester. He is survived by a sister, Claudia Mc Haffie, of Loudonville. He had a granddaughter, Schuyler Maynard, of whom was the apple of his eye. He often bragged about her and she is found displayed throughout his house. He had several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He joins his dad, Jake, whom he drank coffee with each am.

Calling hours for Mr. Jacobs will be Saturday March 7th from 3:00-5:00 pm in J. Seaton McGrath Funeral Home Inc. 40 West James Street, Richfield Springs. A graveside service with military honors will take place this spring in Fly Creek Valley Cemetery.
