I umpired high school and college baseball with Red and also SLO-pitch softball. He was a fine umpire and a really good guy. I´ll have a smile on my face when I think of Red. My sympathy to the family.

I worked with Red at Haskell. He used to save wood pallets for me. One day Red said, "I've been saving these pallets for you for over a year now and what do I get out of it" ?? I said, "what do you want" ? Red said "I want a cherry pie" !!! So...I had my wife make a cherry pie and brought it in to Red the next day. When he saw that I actually brought in his pie....his big tough guy heart about melted right there. He didn't think that I would do that for him. That was what I remember about Red. He looked like and acted like a tough guy but was just a nice guy under all that. He shared his pie with me.
