Norman F. Lofgren

Norman Frederick Lofgren, age 74 and a lifelong resident of Barnum, Minnesota passed away peacefully Wednesday, December 24, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on January 30, 1951 in Duluth, the son of Frederick and Ellen (Wik) Lofgren.

Norman grew up on a dairy farm and was very involved with 4-H and the Future Farmers of America. He was a 1969 graduate of Barnum High School where he enjoyed watching sports and played football for the school. After graduating from high school, Norman attended the Duluth Area Vocational Technical Institute, attaining a degree in baking and pastry arts.

Norman worked for almost 30 years as a heavy equipment operator, driving grader, for the Carlton County Highway Department. Throughout the years, he helped coach both boys' sports and never missed a game. Norman was a member of Elim Lutheran Church where he enjoyed sharing his faith; he volunteered for the Blackhoof Fire Department and participated in a bowling league. He also umped and refereed for 50+ years in baseball, basketball, softball, and football. He enjoyed attending sporting events, playing cards, hunting, fishing, cheering on the MN Vikings and Twins, and above all, spending time with his family.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Ellen; sister, Joyce; sister-in-law, Helen; nieces and nephews, Mandy, Sky, Jennifer and Jeremy. He is survived by his sons, Keith (Nina) and Ross Lofgren; grandchildren, Myles, Cora, and Kash Lofgren and Allie and Amy Jarvis; great-grandson, Easton Jarvis; his siblings, Charles Lofgren (Jeri Ann Bredemus), Arnold (Darlene) Lofgren, Roger (Gwenn) Lofgren, and Yvonne (Craig) Peterson; and numerous nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews.

The family would like to thank Carlton Place, Inter-Faith Care Center, Dr. Nikcevich and the oncology staff, and St. Croix Hospice for their exceptional care.

Services will be held at Elim Lutheran Church in Barnum on Saturday, January 10th, 2026, with a visitation beginning 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. memorial service with a luncheon to follow. Burial will be held at Elim Lutheran Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Nelson Funeral Care in Cloquet.
