Norman Eugene "Gene" Phillips, a beloved Commercial and Industrial Painter throughout his lifetime, passed away on August 10, 2024. He was a cherished husband, father, papa and friend to many, leaving a void in the hearts of all who knew him. Gene was born on June 3, 1965, to Norman and Celestia (Bailey) Phillips, and from that day forward, he lived a life filled with passion and love for his family. His memories will forever be etched in the minds of those who were fortunate enough to share his joy and laughter. Gene found happiness in the simple moments, especially when surrounded by his family, whom he held closest to his heart. Gene was a man of faith and a dedicated member of the Camden Point Baptist Church. An outdoorsman, Gene embraced the beauty of nature in the great outdoors. Whether he was hiking at Smithville Lake, traveling - especially on family vacations, riding his beloved Harley-Davidson, gardening, or casting a line while fishing, Gene's appreciation for the world around him was unwavering. In addition to his gentle love for nature and caring for the wellbeing of animals, Gene had a wide range of hobbies and interests that brought him immense joy. From delving into the worlds of Star Trek, Star Wars, Godzilla, King Kong, Marvel, D.C., and the old west, to participating in fun activities such as the guitar and model trains, or honing his skills as an avid chess player, going to arcades, playing PlayStation, Nintendo or Xbox. Gene always made movie night special. Gene had an enthusiasm for life that was truly infectious. He was a foodie that enjoyed the art of cooking. His passion for art continued throughout his life, and Gene found joy in expressing himself through paintings in his later years that showcased his creativity, spirit, and talent. Gene's accomplishments throughout his life were numerous and impressive. He was a dedicated member of the National Speleological Society, the Union Painters District Counsel 2012, the NRA, and the MO Conservation Society. His commitment to his work and his passions left a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him. A man of integrity and kindness, Gene touched the lives of many with his warm smile and generous spirit. His presence will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with him. Gene was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and uncle: John Ervin. He is survived by his loving wife: Debbie Phillips, children: Rachel (Tommy) DiSalvo, and Ryan (Ellie) Phillips; grandchildren: Tommy, Sebastiano, and Elliana; father and mother in law: Jim (Jeanette) Francis; sister: Melinda Ramsey, brother: Matthew (Liz) Flagg; aunt: Starr Devarona Ervin; as well as several more family and friends including his many nieces and nephews; Gene would like to honor his furry pals: Reno, Bella, Rylee, and Smokey.
