Norman Eugene Smith, lovingly referred to as Butch by the family, was born on September 5, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana to Ophelia and Herbert Smith. Norman joined the Navy in 1959 and got to travel the world. He enlisted for four years and returned to Muncie, IN when his time was up. He met his future wife Linda in 1964 when his friend Mary Ann set him up on a blind date with her boyfriend's little sister. They were married in December of 1965 and have been together for sixty years. They moved to Northern California in 1967 to San Bruno, where Norm learned the plumbing trade. In December 1974, Norm and Linda welcomed their son, Jeffrey William. Jeffrey was the light of Norman's life. He doted on his son and was a fantastic father who was involved in everything Jeff did. Including Boy Scouts, Norman never missed a Boy Scout event or camp out. One of Norman's proudest moments was when Jeff made Eagle Scout in 1987.

Norman was overjoyed with the addition of his two grandchildren Cannon in 2009, and Lylah in 2011. He doted on his grandchildren, and they were his proudest achievement. Norman was very involved with his grandchildren and their activities. He and Linda moved to Wildomar, CA in 2019 to be closer to the kids. Norman was a staple on the pool deck at Cannon's water polo games and at the softball field for Lylah's softball games.

Norman was an avid Hot Wheels collector with a very impressive Hot Wheel collection. He started collecting them when Jeff was little, he would buy one for Jeff and buy one for himself. This extended to Star Wars toys, and just about anything Jeff was interested in. Norman also loved antique toys and had an extensive collection as well.

Norman enjoyed camping and traveling. He would accompany his son and daughter in law and grandchildren on camping trips as often as possible. Norman and Linda also enjoyed visiting National Parks throughout the US and have visited many. They would make a journey of it visiting with friends and family along the way. Norm and Linda split their time between Indiana and California.

Norman was predeceased by his parents, Ophilia and Herbert, and his sister Marlene Pully. Norman is survived by his wife of sixty years, Linda Smith, his son and daughter in law, Jeff and Jill Smith, his grandchildren, Cannon and Lylah Smith, his sister and brother in law, Darlene and Mark Hill, his brother and sister in law, Jack and Sandi Ennis, his Aunt Vicki Clapper and a large extended family which includes many cousins, nieces and nephews and so many friends who he kept in contact.
