Norman Transue Obituary

Norman Transue, loving known as Lee, age 81, of Tafton passed away peacefully with his beloved wife by his side on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at Hospice of the Sacred Heart, Dunmore following a courageous battle with ALS. Lee is survived by his wife of 25 years, Jo Ann (Sheeley) Transue.

Born November 10, 1944, in Middletown, NY, Lee was the son of the late Norman Henry and Shirley (Scales) Transue. He graduated from Edwardsville High School, Illinois in 1962 after traveling to Germany and other US Army bases with his parents. He attended Orange County Community College and then began his 48 year career for IBM in East Fishkill, NY then moving into the Field Engineering Division and management in Camp Hill, PA and other positions in Poughkeepsie, NY. He resumed his education and graduated from Dutchess Community College in 1978. After retiring from IBM in 2012, Lee enjoyed spending time with Jo Ann, family, friends and his dogs.

Formerly of Stormville, NY, Lee and Jo Ann have been residents of Tanglwood North Community in Tafton, PA for the past 18 years where they enjoyed boating on Lake Wallenpaupack. He had served as President of the Tanglwood North Community Association where he led the movement for the property owners to purchase the former Tanglwood Ski Area providing 85 acres of green space for community activities. He was also a member of the Grand Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in NY and PA for 45 years.

A passionate outdoorsman, he especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and RVing. He was a member of the Lost Camp Hunting Club in Matamoras, PA for many years. Lee and Jo Ann and their two pets traveled frequently with their RV and spent winters in Fort Myers, Florida. Lee was truly a kind, humble, caring people-person who made friends everywhere he went.

In addition to his wife, Lee is survived by his children Christopher (Christine) Transue of Dunmore, PA, Brannon (Tina) Transue of Drexel Hill, PA, and Taya Transue of Charlotte, NC, grandchildren: Audrey, Connor and Christopher; sister: Donna McCooey of Gray Court, SC; sister-in-law: Donna Pitts of Wappingers Falls, NY; brothers-in-law: Howell Lunn of Brookfield, CT and Robert Ray of Poughkeepsie, NY; dear friends: Everitt (Carol) Robbins and many nieces and nephews.

He dearly loved all his dogs, but his Yorkies, Emma and Ollie held a special place in his heart. They both recently crossed over the Rainbow Bridge and were there to joyously greet Lee upon his arrival.

The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude for the kindness, loving care and friendship from his personal aides, nurses/physicians and staff at Hospice of the Sacred Heart and the ALS Clinic in Scranton, PA.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in memory of Lee Transue to the Hospice of the Sacred Heart, 30 E.D. Preate Dr., Moosic, PA 18507, ALS United Mid-Atlantic, 1015 Virginia Dr., Suite 110, Fort Washington, PA 19034, ALS Clinic at Geisinger Medical Center, 35 Justin Dr, Third Floor Neurology, Danville, PA 17821.

A celebration of life will be held Sunday, December 7th from 1-4 pm with prayers at 3:30 pm at Teeters' East Chapel, 505 Church St., Hawley, PA, with Sarah Mountain, Chaplain for Hospice of the Sacred Heart officiating.

Services will be held in NY at the future date.
