Our loving mother, NorRene Smith Hatch, peacefully completed her mortal journey and returned to her Heavenly home on February 5, 2024. She leaves a legacy of love and faith that will live on in her family and friends.
NorRene was born on May 24, 1950, in Preston, ID to Glenn and Roma Smith. The oldest of six children, she lovingly cared for her siblings and showed a nurturing spirit from a young age. As a child, NorRene lived in Richmond and Layton, UT before her family settled in Preston when she was a teenager. After she graduated from Preston High School, NorRene attended Brigham Young University and earned an Associates Degree. She spent many years working for Valley Bank and Trust.
While at BYU, NorRene met Wm. Nelson Hatch. They were married on April 3, 1970 in the Logan LDS temple. After many years of waiting, they were blessed with two children, Annalise and William (Billy). NorRene loved being a mom and devoted her life to cherishing her “miracle children”. Nelson and NorRene raised their family in Utah, Michigan, and Washington. They eventually moved to North Logan and NorRene began work at Juniper Systems. She enjoyed the years she spent there as an executive assistant.
After retiring, NorRene loved spoiling her family and relished time spent together. She kept a “Fun Money Fund” that she used to create memories with her children and grandchildren. Nothing brought her greater joy than being with her family.
NorRene is a woman of faith. She served in many capacities in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, but she had a special love of Primary. She had a gift for helping children feel important and loved by both her and their Savior. NorRene also served as an ordinance worker at the Logan temple.
NorRene is survived by her children, Annalise (Tim) Smith and Billy (Jessie) Hatch; and grandchildren, Ariana, Olivia, and Isaac Smith and Evelyn, Oliver, and Ella Hatch. She is also survived by her siblings, Cindy (Randy) Harris, Michael (Julie) Smith, Dixie (Rex) Kendall, Artus (Jim) Amundson, and RJ (Holly) Smith. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
We are grateful for the many family, friends, and neighbors who cared for and visited NorRene as her health declined. We are especially grateful for Dr. Brad Goates and the staff at Maple Springs Assisted Living and IHC Hospice for their care.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the North Logan Stake Center, 2750 North 800 East in North Logan. A viewing will be held immediately before from 9:00 am to 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in the North Logan Cemetery.
