Norris Gray Jarrell Sr., age 97, of Mount Airy, passed away on Wednesday evening, July 24, 2024, at Northern Regional Hospital surrounded by his family. Mr. Jarrell was born in Surry County on April 8, 1927, to the late Fred Rufus and Cena Sutphin Jarrell. Norris was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. Mr. Jarrell was the owner and operator of Jarrell Super Shell in Mount Airy for many years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Surviving are his grandchildren, Lori Jarrell, Jody Jarrell, Brian Rogers; five great-grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Judy Jarrell; one son-in-law, Jimmy Rogers; one sister, Margaret Jarrell Smith; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Jarrell was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Davenport Jarrell; his daughter, Kay Jarrell Rogers; his son, Norris Gray Jarrell Jr.; his sister, Mildred Jarrell; and his brother Kester Thomas Jarrell. A graveside service will be held on Sunday, July 28, at 2 p.m. at Skyline Memory Garden with Reverend Alex Martin officiating. Military Rites will be conducted by VFW post 2019 Mount Airy and Post 9436 Pilot Mountain. No formal visitation will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Calvary Baptist Church, 314 S. Franklin Road, Mount Airy, NC 27030. Moody Funeral Services in Mount Airy is serving the family. Great man,remember him from my childhood and he was always so nice to me and my sisters as we waited for the bus at the store.Some memories live with us our whole lives. Am 65 years old and he made a great memory from my childhood.Thank You Mr.Jarrell
