Nuri Sanchez Kemmerlin

Nuri Kemmerlin passed away peacefully in her sleep on June 12th in her home in Goldsboro, NC. Nuri was from a large family, one of six kids to her late parents, Cruz and Socorro Sanchez. She was born on January 6, 1956, in Eagle Pass, Texas, and was raised in a house full of love, religion, good food, and constant excitement.

In 1976, she married the love of her life, Wayne Kemmerlin. Alongside Wayne, she joined two beautiful children, Derek and Emma. A few short years later she welcomed their daughter, Roxie, to the family.
In the early years of her marriage, the family moved around a bit supporting Wayne's career. Nuri was always up for the adventure and was a supportive spouse and partner. After each move, she made it her mission to create a loving home and nurturing environment for her family. In the early nineties, she and Wayne moved to Wayne County, NC.
Settling into Wayne County was easy for Nuri. She quickly made many friends and embraced the small knit southern community. She never met a stranger and loved social interaction. She had a way of making everyone she encountered feel special. Nuri loved her church family, barbecues in the neighborhood with friends, various part time sales jobs outside the home, trips to Cape Carteret and most importantly, the time spent being a very active mother and wife!
Later in life, her greatest joy was being a grandmother. Whether she was called Grandma, Abuelita or Tata, she took this role very seriously and loved her grandkids dearly.
Nuri leaves behind a legacy of friends and family that loved her dearly. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, Wayne Kemmerlin, her three children, Roxie Adams (Jim), Derek Kemmerlin (Chenin), and Emma Blackwell (Cathy); her eight grandchildren, Hilton and Hayes Adams; Hatcher, Aidan, and Sadie Kemmerlin; and Aspen, Sage and Zach Kemmerlin; and one great grandchild, Owen. Nuri is also survived by her five siblings, Jose Sanchez (Lucy), Juanita Masters, Susie Puentes (Monico), Gloria Martinez (Adrian), and Isamari Sanchez. Lastly, she leaves behind a number of very special nieces, nephews, and in-laws. It is safe to say that anyone she encountered quickly became part of her extended family.
A service to celebrate Nuri's life will be held at a later date. The family will be receiving friends at the home of Jim and Roxie Adams.
