Mr. Nyjahl Nitez Garrett was called home to be with the Lord on January 5, 2026. Nyjahl, affectionately remembered by many, was the second son born to Ms. Aleshia Cochran and Mr. Antonio Garrett in
Talladega, Alabama on November 12, 1998. He leaves a legacy woven with love, laughter, and cherished moments, which will forever resonate in the hearts of those lucky enough to know him.
Nyjahl professed Christ as his Lord and Savior at a young age, firmly grounding his life in faith as he attended various churches throughout his journey. His academic path took him through the Talladega City School System, culminating in his graduation from Talladega High School in 2017. There, he excelled not only academically but also athletically, participating in various sports that sparked his enduring love for competition.
Those who had the privilege of knowing Nyjahl will remember his infectious smile, his generous spirit, and his steadfast loyalty to family and friends. He was a young man who generously shared joy wherever he went, often filling the air with laughter and warmth. He loved playing cards, relished every moment spent surrounded by close family, and was an ardent fan of the Alabama Crimson Tide, with a passion for football that was contagious.
Nyjahl was dedicated to his community and proudly held positions within the construction industry and at Legacy Cabinets. His commitment to excellence in his work showcased the strong work ethic he embodied, inspiring many along the way. He took immense pride in his skills, and those around him recognized the heartfelt dedication he brought to each endeavor.
As we reflect on Nyjahl's life, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on all who crossed his path. We rejoice in knowing that he is now reunited with his great-grandmothers, Mary McKenzie and Mattie C. Taylor; great-great-grandparents Nem and Nellie Cochran, and Geneva and Willie F. Garrett; great-aunts Margaret Richardson and Essie Garrett; and first cousin Latricia "Monae" Cook. In this time of profound loss, we join together to celebrate the wonderful life of Nyjahl. His passing leaves a void that cannot be filled, but his memory will live on in the hearts of all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
He leaves to cherish his memories: his loving mother, Aleshia A. Cochran; his father, Antonio Garrett; his only beloved brother, Antonne Garrett; loving grandparents, Dale Rhoden, Dianne Garrett, and Cheyenne (Brenda) Curry; aunts and uncles, LaToya Curry, Allison Garrett, Kandra (Unterius) Stamps, Chyron (Christina) Cochran, and Terrell (Nina) Garrett; fifteen great-aunts; seven great-uncles; along with a wide circle of cousins, countless friends, and other loved ones who will forever cherish his memory.
As we say our final goodbyes to Nyjahl, let us remember the light he brought to our lives and celebrate the legacy of love, generosity, and joy he leaves behind. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
