Nylene Budge Obituary

Visit the Walker Sanderson Funeral Home & Crematory - Orem website to view the full obituary.

Lila Nylene Gorringe Budge (79), beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully in her home on Monday, February 23, 2026, after a short battle with acute leukemia.

Nylene was born on May 15, 1946, in Oakley, Cassia County, Idaho, to Lila Rachel Hale and Alfred Nile Gorringe. She was raised alongside five siblings: David Hale, Kaye (Shelley), Mary Jo (Carlile), Lorna (Coombs), and Fred Gorringe.

She graduated from Burley High School and later participated in a study abroad program in Mexico. Upon her return, she married her high school sweetheart, Steven Rulon Budge, on December 20, 1967, in the Logan Utah Temple.

Nylene graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Elementary Education. She taught at Brockbank Elementary and Park Elementary until she chose to stay home to raise her family.

She was blessed with four children and devoted herself to teaching them through H and Scouting. She served 45 years in H and 35 years in the Scouting program, earning the “Influential Women in Scouting” award. Through these programs, she taught her own children — and a generation of neighborhood kids — meaningful, hands-on skills and life lessons.

As her children grew older, Nylene returned to work and spent 22 years as an office manager at a doctor’s office. In her later years, she volunteered at Geneva Elementary, tutoring early readers. Of all her roles, her most cherished was being a grandma. She regularly planned and hosted “Cousin Camp” — filled with crafts, activities, tea parties, and sleepovers — creating treasured memories for her grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Nylene was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served faithfully in various callings, including stake and ward Relief Society and Primary presidencies, as well as in the ward Young Women presidency. Her favorite calling was Primary teacher. She also served as a Relief Society advisor in a BYU Young Single Adult ward, where she developed deep and lasting friendships. Together, Steve and Nylene served a 3½ year Church service mission as Addiction Recovery missionaries and found great joy and purpose in that work.

Nylene had a passion for preserving memories. What began as a love of genealogy and family history grew into the creation of beautifully detailed scrapbooks. She donated countless handmade greeting cards to various organizations, and her grandchildren were always the lucky recipients of her most elaborate creations.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, David Elliot Hale.

She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Steve; and her four children: Tori Bennett (Zane), Eric Budge (Taunya), Emily Taylor (Doug), and Angela Page (Jon). She is the proud grandmother of fourteen grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her siblings: Kaye, Mary Jo, Lorna, and Fred.

A viewing will be held Sunday, March 1, 2026, from 5:00–7:00 p.m. at the Walker-Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North in Orem. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 2, 2026, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel located at 810 East 600 North. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 9:30–10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at the Orem City Cemetery.

The family would like to express heartfelt gratitude to the medical professionals at LDS Hospital, Bristol Hospice, and Christina and her team at Senior Partners for their exceptional care and compassion.
