Obiora Onyekwelu Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Old Bridge Funeral Home - Old Bridge on Dec. 26, 2025.
Obiora C. Onyekwelu entered into eternal rest on December 17, 2025, in Lake Mary, Florida. He was born on October 20, 1988, in Lagos, Nigeria to Ikemefuna and Emily Onyekwelu. He spent his formative years in Nigeria before embarking on a journey to New York in 2004 where he attended Forest Hills High School. He spent many years as a talented artist in New York, and later made his home in Lake Mary, FL, in 2022. Obiora was a beacon of creativity in the lives of many, having been an unparalleled artist, designer, shoe designer, and painter; his life was a canvas of bountiful color and texture.
Embraced in love and survived by his father and mother Ikemefuna and Emily Onyekwelu, his life's memories will continue to be cherished by his siblings: Nkechi Akunwafor and her husband Obi, Ayesha Chidolue and her husband Chinedu, and Ikem Onyekwelu Jr. with his wife Crystal. His radiance will forever light the path of his beloved nieces and nephews: Isabelle, Kyle, Emanuella, Naomi, Evan, Christian, and Vivian. He will also be dearly remembered by numerous loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and a multitude of friends whose lives he touched so deeply.
Obiora carried the spirit of a true Christian at heart and in action. He was an individual of boundless compassion, invariably present to extend a helping hand to those in need, and devoted himself to the care of his ailing father. His love for animals and nature was profound, particularly his affection for his pets, whom he cherished as companions and friends.
Those who knew Obiora understood him to be the soul of kindness-always a friendly face in the crowd, outgoing, and inherently well-liked. As an uncle, he was exceptionally loving and wonderful, instilling joy and wisdom in the hearts of the young ones he adored. His capacity to love knew no bounds, and he made it his life's mission to ensure that love was always felt by those around him.
Obiora's artistry and vivacious spirit will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His art was more than a passion; it was the language in which he communicated his view of the world. The legacy he leaves behind in his art, his acts of kindness, and his unwavering love for his family and friends, will reverberate through eternity.
