Charles Smith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Old Bridge Funeral Home - Old Bridge on Mar. 19, 2026.
Charles Robert Smith, also known to many as Charlie, 88, passed away in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on March 15th, 2026. Born on January 15th 1938 in Ashley, Pennsylvania, to Gertrude Berger. At the age of 18 he became a private for the Army, and was even stationed at one point at Arlington Cemetery in Washington D.C, an accomplishment he carried with him proudly for the rest of his life. Charles was a Parishioner of St.Thomas' Church in Old Bridge.

Charles was known for his passion for sports. Not only did he enjoy watching his favorite team the NY Giants from home, he even had season tickets for years with his brother Jack as well. Along with the NY Giants, he loved the NY Yankees. Charles also enjoyed watching golf, specifically Tiger Woods.

Beyond sports Charles also spent his time in a wide array of hobbies. Charles had an amazing green thumb. He took care of his plants and flowers in a way he did with all things in his life, with love and care. He was meticulous when it came to making sure his yard was always cared for. He was an avid baseball card collector and loved miniature trains. He enjoyed watching Old Western movies and going to the movies with his wife Lois.

Above all else, Charles was a devoted husband and father. He was the beloved husband of the late Lois Ann Smith, with whom he settled down in Old Bridge to raised a family, and shared many cherished years with. Charles was a devoted father to Lynn and her husband Scott Stein, of Basking Ridge, NJ, Chris and his wife Jenn Smith of Old Bridge, NJ, and the late Kelly Ann Smith. He was also a proud grandfather to Peyton and Jake Stein. Charles leaves behind his brother Jack and wife Jeanne Berger of New Orleans, LA. He is predeceased by his sister Gertrude Berger. Charles' most favorite thing to do was spend time with his family in NJ and Wilkes Barre, PA, sharing a good meal together.

Charles will be remembered for his love of family, his kindness, and the many lives he touched throughout the years. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

A visitation will be held on Monday, March 23rd, 2026, from 12 P.M to 4 P.M, with a prayer service at 3 P.M at Old Bridge Funeral Home in Old Bridge, New Jersey.

Charles' memory will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
