Peter McCabe

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, and Friend May 7, 1963 - September 5, 2025.

Peter McCabe, a man of immeasurable strength, unwavering dedication and boundless love for his family and community, passed away tragically on September 5, 2025. He was 62years old.

Peter is survived by his devoted wife of nearly 37 years, Angel, with whom he built not just a life, but a legacy of love, laughter, and perseverance. Together, they owned and operated K&M Truck Repair in Ronkonkoma, where Peter poured his heart and soul into helping his customers — often working through the night to ensure a truck was ready when it was needed most. His work ethic was legendary, his standards high, and his heart always in the right place.

He leaves behind two cherished children: Angela Scauso and her husband Donald, and Dylan McCabe, who—along with Angela—affectionately called him “Ironman” as kids. It was a name that suited him perfectly: strong, resilient, and always ready to help others without hesitation.

Peter was the proud grandfather of two beautiful grandchildren, Lina Rose and Tatum James Scauso, who brought joy and laughter into his life and who will carry his spirit forward in their own unique ways.

Those who knew Peter will remember how much he cherished Sunday mornings. Church followed by breakfast was a beloved tradition - the comforting aroma of bacon and home fries often greeted you before you even walked through the door. It was a special time, set aside for family, laughter, and togetherness.

Sundays also meant football. Peter and his family could often be found at Miller’s Ale House, faithfully cheering on his beloved Vikings. Even if they were the only ones in purple, his spirit never wavered - he cheered with heart, no matter the crowd.

A lifelong lover of the outdoors, Peter found peace and happiness camping with his family at Smith Point Beach, fishing (despite only catching what he jokingly called “Buzz Fish”), and telling corny jokes around the campfire from his well-worn collection of joke books. His love for family time was only matched by his passion for his community. As a proud Boy Scout leader for Troop 197, he made a lasting impact on countless young lives, and even after his son moved on from Scouting, Peter stayed involved—more for the camaraderie with his close friends, Steven Lewandowski and Tom McNamee, than anything else.

Though not related by blood, Kevin Williams and George McGough were like brothers to Peter. From their early school days through weddings and the births of their children, they shared a lifelong bond and stood by each other though every chapter of life.

Peter is also survived by his beloved dogs, Mona Lisa Vito and Sophie; his loving mother, Rose McCabe; his brothers Louis, Frank, Kevin, and James; and his sisters Linda and Sharon. He cherished his family deeply and was a rock to all who leaned on him.

He was a proud American and deeply patriotic, holding fast to his faith and living his life with joy, conviction, and anticipation for what lay beyond this world. Peter never feared death—instead, he lived fully, loved deeply, and believed fervently in the promise of heaven.

Peter McCabe will be remembered not only for his hands that could fix anything, but for his heart that gave everything. His absence leaves a hole that can never be filled, but his legacy—of faith, family, hard work, and humor—will live on in all who knew and loved him.
