Offie Jerry Simmons, a beloved member of his community and a cherished family man, went to his Heavenly home on February 6, 2026, at Sanctuary Hospice. Born on August 28, 1946, in Monroe County, Jerry lived a life rich with laughter, service, and dedication.
A proud graduate of Smithville High School, Jerry spent a significant portion of his career at Mueller Brass of Fulton before enjoying a well-deserved retirement. His commitment to service extended beyond his professional life as he also honorably served in the National Guard for 27 years, including being called up for Desert Storm.
Jerry was a man who always saw the lighter side of life. Known for his jovial personality and love for humor, he was often found sharing jokes and good-natured banter with friends over breakfast at different local establishments. He cherished these moments, which he also shared monthly with his cousins, embracing connections with warmth and laughter.
His love for family was paramount, and he took great pride in raising his children. Jerry is survived by his devoted wife, Linda Pearson Simmons; his daughter, Lorrie Gillentine (Chris); and his son, Jay Simmons (Emily). He leaves behind two grandchildren who were lights in his life, Wesley Gillentine (Morgan) and Mason Gillentine. Additionally, he is survived by his sisters-in-law, Pat Simmons and Gena Gilmore (Kenny), his brother-in-law, Bobby Russell, and four nieces: Dixie Alim (Naveed), Angie Whitenton, Erin Tollison, and Angie Fears, along with a host of great nieces and nephews.
Jerry's faith and devotion were evident as he was actively involved with Richmond Baptist Church, where he found spiritual solace and community support. He enjoyed hobbies such as piddling in his shop and riding side-by-side. A lover of sports, he attended all of Wesley and Mason’s events, proudly cheering them on. He also had a penchant for playing chicken foot with family, creating bonds and memories that will last a lifetime.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Offie L. and Gertrude Simmons; his sisters, Mavis Conwill (Wayne) and Sylvia Russell; his brother, Barry Simmons; and his nephew, Mark Williams.
Offie Jerry Simmons will be remembered for his famous sayings, "You Can't fix Stupid" and "Better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it," reflecting his practical approach to life. His legacy will forever live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Visitation will be held on February 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at E. E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. A Celebration of Life will take place the following day, February 11, 2026, at 2:00 PM, also at the same location. Burial to follow at Bethlehem Cemetery in the Oak Hill Community.
Pallbearers will be Conner Tollison, Wesley Gillentine, Mason Gillentine, Jay Simmons, Chris Gillentine, and Kenny Gilmore. Honorary Pallbearers will be Chris Umfress, Sammy Seymore, Terry Garner, Dale Mills, Kenny Guess, Glen Burt, Pierce Roberts, Gary Johnston, Bill Shumpert, and Billy Joe Harmon.
