Olen Ray Wright

Olen Ray Wright was born on October 2, 1940, in Cooper, Texas, in Delta County, and passed away peacefully at home on December 31, 2025, in DeSoto, Texas.

Olen lived a life marked by faith, adventure, generosity, and a genuine love for people. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy as a parachute rigger, an experience that shaped his courage, work ethic, and deep appreciation for freedom and independence. His service took him to places such as Puerto Rico, and throughout his life, he continued to embrace adventure, from snow skiing in the mountains of Colorado to family vacations in a custom bus or hauling a horse trailer across long stretches of highway.

An avid horse cutter and proud member of the American Cutting Horse Association, Olen loved horses and cattle and felt most at home working with them. His passions were wide-ranging, including Harleys and Corvettes, and he approached every interest with joy.

In his professional life, Olen was a successful concrete contractor during the 1970s and 1980s. As the owner of Central Concrete, he earned a reputation for craftsmanship, integrity, and hard work. So well-known was he in his trade that his CB handle became “Concrete Cowboy,” a nickname that perfectly captured both his profession and his larger-than-life personality.

Olen had a natural gift for bringing people together and celebrating life. He loved to dance and spent many memorable nights at the Crystal Chandelier; his dancing and charisma drew the attention of the entire room. He was a storyteller at heart, sharing lessons from life and the Lord, turning ordinary moments into lasting memories.

He spent many years living in DeSoto and Red Oak, where he built lasting friendships and became a familiar, well-loved presence. Known for his generosity, warmth, and willingness to help others, Olen became a father figure to many and left a lasting impression on all who knew him.

Coming from a strong foundation shaped by a praying mother, Olen knew the Lord and trusted Him throughout his life. Now, he rests in the arms of his Savior, reunited with his parents, family, and friends who have gone before him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and a life fully lived.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Adult & Teen Challenge Dallas, a ministry Olen supported and that also supported him. As neighbors, they faithfully assisted him, cared for him, and walked alongside him with compassion and love.

The family will receive friends from 5 - 8:00 P.M. at the West/Hurtt Funeral Home on Tuesday - January 06, 2026.

Graveside Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. in the Liberty Grove Cemetery, 289 FM 1880, Cooper (Delta Co.), TX 75432 on Wednesday - January 07, 2026.
