Olga Flores Byrd, 87, beloved wife of Robert (Bob) Wayne Byrd, of Fayetteville, NC, passed away on the 5th of October, 2025. She was born in San Antonio, Texas on March 28, 1938 to Eutimio Flores and Manuela Sauceda.
Olga and Bob met on Valentine’s Day in San Antonio, Texas in 1963 and were married in Marathon, Florida, on August 30th of that same year. Bob referred to her as his “yellow rose of Texas”.
In 62 years of marriage that included 35 years of Air Force life with Bob, they raised four beautiful children. Additionally after gaining her degree from Our Lady of the Lakes College in San Antonio, Texas, Olga taught elementary school, sold real estate, was a librarian at the University of Alaska-Anchorage and juggled eight moves following military life. During this time, she even obtained a second degree in horticulture, a life long passion of hers, which later led to her being largely responsible for beautifying their Fayetteville neighborhood with plants from her greenhouse.
Olga is survived by her husband, Bob Byrd; their children- Rodney Wayne Byrd of Largo, FL; Gary Dewayne Byrd and wife Tammy McGuirt of Holly Ridge, NC; Roberta Gail Grantham and husband Kenneth of Snow Hill, NC; and Robert Joseph Byrd and wife Kelly of Fuquay Varina, NC.
Olga and Bob also have had nine precious grandchildren to include, Kyle Byrd, Ryan Byrd and wife Mary; Brentley Byrd and her husband Tyler Hudson, Taylor Byrd; Darby and Wyatt Grantham; and Madeline, Joseph and Timothy Byrd. Lastly Olga and Bob have a new great grandson named Griffin, born to Ryan and Mary Byrd. Of Olga’s immediate family, one brother, Arthur Flores, of San Antonio, Texas survives her.
Olga was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Bertha Flores Canales and Rosemary Rodriguez Flores, all family of San Antonio, Texas.
A funeral service to Celebrate Olga's Life will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at 3 pm at Sullivan's Highland Chapel. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
