Olga Conti Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 11, 2012.
Olga Fiocca Conti, 90, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Virginia Beach General Hospital. Olga was an amazingly talented and much loved woman by all those who had the privilege to have known her. She touched all souls she met in a very positive way. Born in Akron, Ohio she came from a very conservative Italian patriarchal Catholic family. She learned both piano and organ at a very young age; and was commanding a full voice 8 part church choir by the time she was 12 years old. Marriage brought her to New York City in the early 1950's. She honed her craft as both organist and choir director in several Catholic Churches. In 1979 Olga was honored by her peers to play the organ at Shea Stadium for the newly installed Pope John Paul II, when he visited New York City. She received many accolades for her multimedia productions of "The Passion Story", years before it was popularized by Mel Gibson; as well as her tribute to the victims of 9/11 in her "For God and Country" presentations. After giving honor and glory to the Lord for 70+ years Olga retired at the age of 83. A few short years thereafter she decided to move down to Virginia Beach to be with her children. She continued to entertain those new friends at her residence at First Colonial Inn until the Good Lord called her home to direct His celestial choir. She is survived by her son, Gene (wife Barbara) and two daughters, Camille (husband Mark) and Carla (husband Charles). She also leaves 6 grandchildren, Rob, David, Alanna, Greg, Brian and Amanda; as well as 7 great-grandchildren, Victoria, Luke, Noah, Connor-Jacob, Jonaith, Justley, and Tyler. The wake/viewing will be held Thursday, June 14, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, 1264 Great Neck Road North, Virginia Beach, VA 496-9727. The Funeral Mass will be at the Church of the Holy Family on Friday, June 15, 2012, at 1 p.m., 1279 North Great Neck Road, Virginia Beach, VA 481-5702. On line condolences may be made at www.hollomon-brown.com.
