Olga A. (Ybanez) Diaz, 100, born on November 24, 1924, in George West, Texas, passed away peacefully in her hometown on November 5, 2025. She was a beloved special needs provider who dedicated her life to helping others, a lasting impact on countless families in her community, where she was actively involved.
Olga was born November 24, 1924, to Jose Maria Ybanez and Jesusa (Flores) Ybanez. She attended school in George West and married Jose Diaz in George West in August 1946. She was a devoted member of St. George Catholic Church and actively involved in the Altar Society and the Catholic Quilted Society, reflecting her strong faith and community spirit. She also participated in the GI Forum, where she contributed her time and talents to support veterans and families.
Olga found joy in sewing, playing the slot machines, watching her favorite novelas during her later years, square dancing and shopping trips. One of her proudest moments came when she was honored with the title of Centennial Queen, a testament to her spirited engagement with her community.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jose and Jesusa Ybanez; her beloved husband, Jose Diaz; and her siblings, Carolina, Cora, Felix, Martin and Maximiliano.
Olga cherished her family deeply. She is survived by her three beloved daughters, Mary Margaret Diaz, Delia (Daniel) Saenz and Mary Ann (Lamar) Cortez. Her legacy continues through her five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who were her pride and joy Olga also leaves behind three siblings, Jose Maria Ybanez Jr., Francisco Ybanez and Eugenia Blomstrom, with whom she shared many cherished memories.
Those wishing to offer their condolences to the family may do so from 8:45 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, November 15, 2025, at St. George Catholic Church in George West.
A Rosary will be recited there at 9:30 a.m. that morning with the funeral Mass celebration at 10 o’clock. Father Romeo Salinas will officiate. Burial will follow at the St. George Catholic Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Rick Patino, Ryan Patino, Daniel Patino, Maddox Cortez, Drew Saenz, Gabe Saenz and Ian Taylor.
Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Joey Saenz and Jody Cortez.
As we remember Mrs. Diaz, we celebrate a remarkable woman who would have turned 101 years old on her upcoming birthday.
