Olga Sapunkova born on October 10, 1988, in Drohobych, Ukraine, passed away surrounded by love after a courageous and inspiring life journey.
She is survived by her beloved husband Serhiy, her parents Larysa and Volodymyr, two brothers-Andriy and Oleksander, aunt, cousin, nephew, extended family in Ukraine and US, and many dear friends.
Olga always spoke of her childhood with warmth and gratitude. After graduating high school, she moved to Lviv to continue her education at Lviv Polytechnic University, where she earned a degree in Architecture and Design. Drawing and creating had been her passion since childhood, and she dreamed of using her talent to bring beauty into the world. Alongside her love for design, Olga was deeply interested in advertising and visual storytelling, and she chose her field of study knowing it would help her pursue her dream career.
In 2008, Olga came to the United States. It was there that she met the love of her life, her husband Serhiy. Their bond was built on deep love, partnership, and shared dreams.
In 2014, Olga's life changed forever when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). She endured a bone marrow transplant, numerous rounds of chemotherapy and radiation, and long days in the hospital. Through it all, she remained grateful for life and determined to live it fully.
In 2016, she wrote:
"It happened that this year I am on the boardwalk every other day… jogging… walking… and I see something I never noticed before - young people in wheelchairs, people without hair, people who have ports in their necks and arms… they are trying to enjoy the ocean maybe for the last time. So I run harder. I run because I can. To me it does not matter how fast or how far I go. There is no test to pass. I run for those who cannot run. I know they would do the same for me."
Olga built a successful business as an interior designer and was recognized as one of the Best and Brightest Young Designers in Retail by VMSD Magazine in 2024. That same year, as she prepared to receive this honor, she learned that her cancer had returned. Even then, nothing stopped her from spreading love, hope, and gratitude for life.
Olga and Serhiy loved traveling together, especially to Rhode Island. They cherished time spent in Lambertville, New Jersey, but most of all, they loved the home-the nest-they built together. Olga also treasured every visit to her parents and family in Ukraine, who held a special place in her heart.
Olga taught all of us to see beauty in the smallest details, to cherish every moment, and to live life to the fullest. Her strength, kindness, creativity, and unconditional love for life will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.
Her light will never fade.
