With heavy hearts and deep love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Olin D. Richey, 91, of Middletown, CT, who entered eternal rest on Friday, January 9, 2026. He was born on October 21, 1934, in Greenville County, South Carolina, to the Late Furman Richey and Late Helen Burts Richey. He was a devoted husband of 61 years to his beloved wife, Ella Richey. Their marriage was a true partnership, built on resilience, commitment, family and unwavering love.
He received his early education in South Carolina and graduated from High School in Connecticut. Throughout his adult working life, Mr. Richey was employed at Monsanto/Silgan and retired 35 years later. He proudly and honorably served his country during the Korean War, answering the call of duty with courage and dedication.
Mr. Olin Richey exemplified true Christian servanthood throughout his membership at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church. He served faithfully as a Trustee and later as a Deacon and led the Prayer Ministry with dedication and sincerity. He was a devoted member who was always willing to lend a helping hand whose life reflected his love for God, his family, the church, and God's people.
He is survived by his wife: Mother Ella Richey; children: one son, James Robert Smith, Greenville, SC; two daughters, Yolanda "Cie Cie" Williams, Meriden, CT, and Jennifer Feagin, Atlanta, GA. He also leaves to cherish his memory, his grandchildren: OB Smith, South Carolina; Kiari Williams, Tia Daniels (Jamarr), all of Meriden, CT; and Kedar Parker, California. Several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. A special sister-in-law, Ann; and a special niece, Linda Chiles.
He was predeceased by his two siblings, Barbara Richey and Columbus Richey.
A celebration of Deacon Olin Richey homegoing celebration will be held on Friday, January 23, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, 346 Butternut Street, Middletown, CT. Burial will follow at the Connecticut State Veterans Cemetery, 317 Bow Lane, Middletown, CT where full military honors will be accorded.
