Olive Franklin Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Brown's Funeral Home - Plainfield on Dec. 9, 2025.
Sis. Olive Franklin was born on August 5, 1927, in Goldsboro, North Carolina to Simon Joyner and Ida Dawson. She received her education through the Goldsboro public schools, graduating from Dillard High School. At an early age, she became a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
In the late 1940s, Sis. Franklin relocated to Elizabeth, New Jersey, where she transferred her church membership to Liberty Baptist Church under the guidance of Rev. Tyler Thomas. She was an active member of the Choir, Usher Board, and Nurse's Unit.
In the 1970s, Sis. Franklin was invited by a close friend to attend Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, where Rev. Matthew Frazier served as pastor. A year after her visit, she became a member of the church.
At 98 years of age, Sis. Franklin was the President of the Pastor's Aid and Culinary Ministries at Greater Mount Moriah Baptist Church. Also, she was a past Senior Choir President and was always ready to sing when called upon, including the United Voices Gospel Choir and the Emergency Choir. Additionally, she was committed to the Nurse's Ministry.
Her community involvement extended beyond her church; she served as President of the Roselle AARP Club, was a member of Roselle Active Seniors and the Roselle Exercise Group, and previously President of the Pinewood Hall Senior Association.
She was a member of the Red Hat Social Club.
She was preceded in death by her two grandchildren, Jamil Joyner and Tonya Montague, as well as her brother, Benjamin Joyner.
Sis. Franklin leaves to cherish her son, Glascus "Gene" Joyner, eight great grandchildren - Keeya Boone, Tanesha Boone, Keith Boone, Rodney Montague, Jessica Montague, Dayshia Paul, Jabari Joyner, Laila Joyner - an adopted great grandchild Brandon Parker. She also leaves behind one great-great grandson, Syrian Boone.
Sis. Franklin always wanted everyone to know that God had been good to her, her family and the Greater Mt. Moriah Baptist Church family. Her enduring legacy of love and faith will be remembered by all whose lives she touched.
Sis. Franklin "Nannie" will be forever loved and deeply missed.
