Olive Ann Ogalsbee, 85, of Robinson, IL, passed away on Monday, August 14, 2023, at Robinson Rehab and Nursing.
Olive was born on April 16, 1938, in Bangor, ME, the daughter of Peter & Stella (Cowette) Dyer, both of whom preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Philip E. Ogalsbee Sr., as well as her youngest son, Phillip E. Ogalsbee Jr., and son-in-law, Melvin Stanley.
She is survived by her oldest son, Linus Ogalsbee; by her daughters & son-in-law, Tammie Courtney-Stanley and Gloria & Kerry Knight; by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Olive met her lifelong love, Philip E. Ogalsbee Sr., at an early age. They were wedded when she was just 16 years old. Together, they embarked on a journey of love for an outstanding 64 years, launched a beautiful family, and traveled across the U.S. for Philip's job. Olive's spirit and willingness to embrace adventure were the foundation of the family's nomadic lifestyle.
Olive dedicated a significant portion of her life to the healthcare field for 25 years, spreading her nurturing spirit to all she encountered across Illinois and Missouri.
She was as comfortable with a needle and thread as she was with a shotgun. Olive's skillful hands created beautiful pieces through sewing and crocheting, with every stitch echoing her love for the craft. On the other hand, she exhibited a fierce spirit during dove hunting and deer hunting sessions and even during competitive trap shooting.
Olive's comforting presence wasn't confined to her professional life and personal hobbies; her love extended to simpler joys, such as watching her favorite Western films on television.
Those who knew Olive will remember her comforting presence, her warm smile, and her invincible spirit. Her memory will forever remain a beacon of strength, wisdom, and love for her family and everyone fortunate enough to have known her. As we celebrate Olive Ann Ogalsbee, we remember a life beautifully lived and cherish the memories she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, immortalized in the hearts of those she touched with her kindness, courage, and unwavering love.
There will be no services. She will be laid to rest at a private ceremony in Plad, Missouri at a later date. The Goodwine Funeral Home in Palestine is in charge of local arrangements.
