Olive Schoonmaker Obituary

Olive Mae Schoonmaker made her journey home to the Lord with her children by her side at Middletown Park Rehabilitation Center, Middletown New York on November 19, 2025. She was 82. Daughter of the late Kenneth Oscar and Gladys Viola (Hallback) Schoonmaker, she was born on October 27,1943 in Waldwick, New Jersey.

Olive is survived by her daughter Kathleen Krotje Dempsey, her husband Thomas Dempsey and their children Christina Dempsey Chronister and her husband Bill Chronister; Thomas Dempsey and his wife Lindsay; Michael Dempsey and his wife Courtney: her daughter Debora Krotje Holland, her husband Kevin Holland and their children Drew Krotje and Kenneth Krotje Holland; and her son Robert Krotje Jr, his son Andrew Krotje and his wife Alyson. Her great grandchildren Jacob Chronister, Josephine Chronister, Addison Martell, Kamrin Dempsey, Joshua Dempsey, Noah Dempsey, Violet Krotje and eagerly anticipating the arrival of her eighth great grandchild, Kassius Drew. She is also survived by her four nephews which she also cared for deeply.

In addition to her parents, Olive was also predeceased by her infant brother Kenneth and sister Louise Schoonmaker Flanagan and her husband Michael.

Olive lived most of her years in New York where she married and raised her children. Later in life she returned to school where she studied law at Cardozo University, earned her Juris Doctorate and passed the New York State bar exam. She lived her last several years in Sun City Center, Florida. She committed herself to service within her church wherever she was, her faith truly blessed her throughout her life. During her years in Florida she enjoyed her garden, swimming and tai chi.

Visitation will be held Tuesday, November 25th 4:30-6:30pm with a celebration service to follow at the Bullville United Methodist Church, Route 17K, Bullville New York. Burial will be 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 26th at the Bloomingburg Cemetery, 845 Bloomingburg Road, Bloomingburg New York.
