Oliver Sladek Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Johnson Funeral Home on Mar. 29, 2026.
Oliver Edward Sladek, Jr. Born September 26, 1931 in Glen Dale, West Virginia died March 28, 2026 in Cedarville West Virigina of natural causes. He is survived by his children Susanne Vendlinski (Bernie) Gregory Sladek (Sandy) and June Sladek (Rick) his beloved grandchildren Theresa Rose, Bernie Jr (Shannon), Joe, Jessica (Josh), Anthony (Brooke), Ryan, Matthew, great grandchildren Abbey Rose, Layla Rose, Alice, Elyse, Aria June, Cameron, Riley, many adoring nieces and nephews, his sister Dorothy Mihok and his cherished loving partner of 30 years Yvonne Kellogg. Yvonne's daughters Trish (John) and Joyce (Robert) along with the entire Stout clan became part of Ollie's loving family.

He is preceded in death by his loving daughter Kathleen, his parents Oliver Edward Sr. & Josephine Sladek and Josephine and siblings Helen, Betty, Joseph and Michael.

Although born in West Virginia, Ollie lived much of his life in the Cleveland area before returning to West Virginia in 2012 where he would live happily ever after with Yvonne until his passing.

A proud father, husband and provider, Ollie was a member of the local 707 Painters Union IUPAT, embracing the painting & decorating trade. He worked alongside his brother Michael and was gifted with the ability to transform woodwork, cabinetry & stone with his brushstroke techniques and custom finishes. He loved making his residential and commercial customers elated with one of a kind looks when given creative license. Anyone who worked with him knew he was a stickler for excellence with his paperhanging! He had the pleasure of working on decorating projects at the home of former Cleveland Browns Owner, Art Modell.

Ollie loved to cook, play cards, gave Vegas a run for their money, loved the Tribe (back in the Buddy Bell era) and was everyone's favorite dance partner. Ollie was the life of the party; kind, fun and generous with his time and his craft.

Singing and music were always Ollie's passion. He sang in the school choir as a young boy and was a soloist and tenor/baritone in the St. Stevens Byzantine Catholic Church choir in Euclid, Oh. Ollie continued to sing, play harmonica and loved to entertain folks in West Virginia with his fellow jam bandmates, cheering up the residents at the local nursing home.

He will be missed by his family & friends, but we know he'll remain, "still in the holler".

Visitation will be held Monday, April 6, 2026 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Johnson Funeral Home, 368 Mentor Avenue, Painesville. A funeral service will follow at 7:00 p.m. Burial will take place Tuesday, April 7, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. in All Souls Cemetery, Chardon.
